Fred Mitchell Award 2011 Watch List, part 2

We continue our review of the preseason watch List for this year's Fred Mitchell Award. The Selection Committee Chairman Chris Kearney said, "These place-kickers are terrific on the football field and off the field representing their schools, their football teams, their conferences, their communities, their families and themselves. We look forward to following their accomplishments during the next few months." The Watch List includes place-kickers from more than 750 eligible colleges. Fred Mitchell said, "It is a pleasure to include these fine young men on the Watch List for this Award. We are delighted to recognize them based on outstanding performance in the community and expectations going into the 2011 college football season."

In alphabetical order, following is the second quarter of the Watch List.

Jacob Gahart, Ripon College (Wisconsin) – Division III
Junior from Elkhorn, WI….2nd on the team in 2010 scoring with 78 points from 7 of 11 FG’s and 51 of 53 PAT’s….highest scorer among Midwest Conference place-kickers….First Team Midwest Conference….tied for 4th in Red Hawks history with 7 FG’s in a season, just 2 FG’s behind his school record in 2009….scored 9 points in October 9 game against Monmouth…made game-winning 25-yard FG in OT to beat Carroll University 27-24 on September 25….named Midwest Conference Performer of the Week following September 25 game….averaged 53 yards on 67 kickoffs….career development department volunteer at Ripon College….mentor to students at Ripon Middle School….assisted with research to establish an improved test for freshmen during Summer orientation

Emilio (E. J.) Genzano, The College at Brockport (New York) – Division III
Junior from Albany, NY….2nd on the Golden Eagles in 2010 scoring with 41 points from 5 of 6 FG’s and 26 of 31 PAT’s….set school record for most career PAT’s when he made his 67th PAT in a game against Rowan on October 23…started the “Kicks for a Cure” campaign to raise funds and awareness for Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy, a rare degenerative condition that affects E.J.’s 13-year old brother…exceeded $2,500 fundraising goal for MMD by raising over $3,500 for research based on his made FG’s and PAT’s

Herb Glass, University at Albany - FCS
Senior from Miller Place, NY….led team in 2010 scoring with 52 points from 8 of 19 FG’s and 28 of 29 PAT’s….164 career points is among the school’s all-time leaders….needs 4 more points to become the school’s highest-scoring place-kicker….2nd in career FG’s (26) and 1st in career FG’s attempted (50)….86 PAT’s attempted is 4th all-time….averaged 57 yards on 46 kickoffs….10 special teams tackles….participates in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk

Brad Greenway, Cornell University (New York) – FCS
Senior from Encinitas, CA….led team in 2010 scoring with 26 points from 4 of 5 FG’s and 14 of 15 PAT’s…has led team in scoring each of the past three seasons and is a four-year starter at place-kicker…21 of 34 career FG’s and 51 of 55 career PAT’s…ranks 3rd in school history in career FG’s, 8th in PAT’s and 14th in career points with 114….made career-long 49-yard FG against Dartmouth and a 45-yarder at Columbia….averaged 63 yards on 29 kickoffs….gathered school supplies, cleats and jerseys to bring to children in Ghana as part of community service initiative….visited an Agent Orange community in Vietnam that has disabled children whose parents were impacted during the Vietnam War where he visited several schools to play with children…reads to elementary school students as a volunteer in a local program….volunteer coach in the Challenger Soccer Camps for special needs children…volunteers at Ithaca’s Salvation Army by helping organize clothes and goods throughout the store….Boys and Girls Club of San Diego volunteer

Taylor Groff, East Stroudsburg University (Pennsylvania) – Division II
Sophomore from Manheim, PA….led the Warriors in 2010 scoring with 87 points from 16 of 21 FG’s and 39 of 41 PAT’s….set school record for most FG’s in a season….ranks 2nd in school history among kickers with 87 points in a season….one of two Division II kickers to make FG’s in each game….12 of 12 FG’s inside 40 yards….led Conference and ranked 9th in Division II with 7.9 points per game by a kicker….made FG’s of 45 and 48 yards to end the first half in two games….averaged 62 yards on 65 kickoffs….volunteer for children’s programs at local church….participates in school’s Breakfast with the Warriors during preseason camp…volunteers at Kohl’s Kicking Camps and Special Teams Solutions Camps

Aaron Jamieson, University of Central Missouri – Division II
Junior from Cassville, MO….3rd on the 8th ranked Mules in 2010 scoring with 108 points from 15 of 19 FG’s and 63 of 72 PAT’s….set school record for most points in a season by a place-kicker and 6th highest among all positions….set school record for the most PAT’s made in a season and ranks second in FG’s in a season….Second Team All-MIAA….scored season high 13 points in 37-20 win over Pittsburg State on September 18 from 3 of 3 FG’s and 4 of 4 PAT’s….averaged 58 yards on 11 kickoffs….volunteered on the school’s Literacy Team where student-athletes read to local elementary school students

Billy Janssen, Drake University (Iowa) – FCS
Senior from Round Lake Beach, IL….led the Bulldogs in 2010 scoring with 44 points from 3 of 9 FG’s and 35 of 35 PAT’s….2nd player in school history and 1st in non-scholarship era to make all PAT’s in a season….scored 4 points in 10-7 win over Butler on November 13….instrumental leader on the team’s May 2011 trip to Tanzania, Africa to perform service projects and climb Mt. Kilimanjaro as extensions of the Bulldogs’ Global Kilimanjaro Bowl game…helped build an addition on a school and make significant repairs to orphanages and schools in Moshi and Arusha…helped organize his teammates for their participation in the program’s annual Youth Day where area school children are invited to come to Drake Stadium for an afternoon of football-related fun and games…visited youth at the Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines….packed meals for “Meals from the Heartland”

Ryan Jastram, North Dakota State University – FCS
Senior from Sioux Falls, SD….transferred from New Mexico State who received playing opportunities late in the 2009 season….converted 15 of 27 FG’s and 48 of 49 PAT’s in 19 career games….2nd on team in 2010 scoring with 84 points from 14 of 23 FG’s and 42 of 43 PAT’s….first PAT of 2010 season was blocked and following 42 PAT’s were all made….made career-long 51-yard FG against Robert Morris on November 27 in first round FCS playoff game….scored all of the team’s points in 6-3 win over Kansas on September 4….Missouri Valley Football Special Teams Player of the Week and College Sporting News FCS National Weekly All-Star….made career-best 6 of 6 PAT’s in 42-17 win over Montana State on December 4 in second round playoff game....Kohl’s Kicking Camp Counselor….Fargo Parks & Recreation work during summer months

Auburn Jimenez, Macalester College (Minnesota) – Division III
Sophomore from East Los Angeles, CA….led team in 2010 scoring with 64 points from 9 of 14 FG’s and 37 of 39 PAT’s….scored 12 points against Hamline on October 2….scored 12 points in 48-27 win over Minnesota-Morris on October 29….made 43-yard FG with 3 seconds remaining to beat Crown 44-41 on September 25….44-yard FG against Minnesota-Morris was the longest at Macelester since Matt Kesler’s 49-yard FG in 1997….averaged 53 yards on 57 kickoffs….volunteered and raised money for the Alhambra American Little League….assisted the elderly at the Montebello Convalescent Home

Frank Keenan, Fairmont State University (West Virginia) – Division II
Senior from Byfleet, England....Team Captain….led the Fighting Falcons in 2010 scoring with 62 points from 8 of 10 FG’s and 38 of 41 PAT’s….First Team All-Conference….Team Captain….led the Conference in FG percentage and ranked 13th in Division II….Conference Special Teams Player of the Week after scoring 11 points against West Liberty on September 30….38 PAT’s in 2010 ranks 3rd in school history…averaged 58 yards on 58 kickoffs….played rugby at a university in England before attending Fairmont State….President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee….raises funds for Make-A-Wish….reads at local elementary schools….coordinated the Community Read & Feed program where fans brought food and books to a FSU football game to the student-athletes who distributed these items to libraries, food shelters and schools…was instrumental in involving the school’s student-athletes in the “Paint the Town Maroon” initiative where the teams put up school-themed scarecrows on local light posts…organized events for Pancreatic Cancer Month and Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Sean Kelley, University of California Davis – FCS
Senior from Monrovia, CA….led team in 2010 scoring with 65 points from 13 of 17 FG’s and 26 of 27 PAT’s….has led Aggies in scoring each of the past three seasons…ranks 2nd in school history with 35 career FG’s….made all three FG’s in comeback 22-21 win over #19 Cal Poly on November 14….Great West Conference Special Teams Player of the Week…All-Conference First-Team in 2009 and 2010….averaged 60 yards on 51 kickoffs….volunteers at Shriners Children’s Hospital in Sacramento

Andrew Kocurek, Southwest Baptist University (Missouri) – Division II
Sophomore from Aledo, TX….3rd on the Bearcats in 2010 scoring with 67 points from 4 of 7 FG’s and 55 of 59 PAT’s….scored 10 points in 52-0 win over Central State on October 23….made career-long 47-yard FG against William Jewell on September 18, which was the school’s longest FG since 2003…averaged 52 yards in 77 kickoffs….participates in the Big Cat Little Cat program where the school’s football players visit local elementary schools each Friday to visit the kids and assist teachers in their daily lessons….visits local nursing homes to volunteer time with the elderly

David Lang, Butler University (Indiana) – FCS
Senior from Lowell, IN…led the Bulldogs in 2010 scoring with 62 points from 14 of 23 FG’s and 20 of 22 PAT’s….3rd in scoring among kickers in the Pioneer Football League and 7th overall….set school record with 14 FG’s in a season…All Pioneer Football League Honorable Mention….Special Teams Player of the Week after kicking three FG’s and scoring 12 points in season-opening win over Ablion….made career-long 45-yard FG against Morehead State…football team’s representative on the Butler Student Athlete Advisory Committee….participated in fund drive for the Angel Tree program which donated over 200 “shoe box” gifts for children in Indianapolis….Ronald McDonald House food delivery volunteer
