Fred Mitchell Award October 2011 Recognizees, part 2

The Fred Mitchell Award recognized 36 place-kickers for their excellence on the football field and in the community during the month of October. The recipient of the award will be announced in mid-December based on performance on the field and in the community.

The breakdown of the 36 place-kickers is as follows:
  • Collegiate Division – 9 FCS, 10 Division II, 12 Division III, 2 NAIA and 3 NJCAA
  • State – the place-kickers play at schools located in 25 different states with 5 place-kickers at schools in Pennsylvania
  • Year – 17 Seniors, 10 Juniors, 8 Sophomores, 1 Freshman
  • Included on the Preseason Watch List for the 2011 Fred Mitchell Award - 17

DANIEL FISHER, Bloomsburg University (Pennsylvania) – Division II
Sophomore from Harrisburg, PA….leads the Huskies in scoring with 83 points from 15 of 18 FG’s and 38 of 40 PAT’s ….scored 47 points in October from 8 of 10 FG’s and 23 of 23 PAT’s….scored 14 points in 32-20 win over East Stroudsburg on October 1….averaging 56 yards on 59 kickoffs….Habitat for Humanity volunteer….helped renew local town park in The Big Event community service program….Ronald McDonald House volunteer

JACOB GAHART, Ripon College (Wisconsin) – Division III
Junior from Elkhorn, WI….leads the Red Hawks in scoring with 63 points from 12 of 13 FG’s, 25 of 27 PAT’s and one 2-point conversion…scored 38 points in October from 8 of 8 FG”s, 12 of 13 PAT’s and one 2-point conversion….four-time Midwest Conference Special Teams Performer of the Week this season including two times in October ….28 career FG’s ranks 2nd in school history….made his second 45-yard FG of the season against St. Norbert on October 29 which is his 2nd longest and 6th longest in school history….scored 7 points in 31-27 win against Beloit College on October 15….averaging 54 yards on 50 kickoffs….has one reception for 9 yards this season….career development department volunteer at Ripon College….mentor to students at Ripon Middle School….assisted with research to establish an improved test for freshmen during Summer orientation

JORDAN GAY, Centre College (Kentucky) – Division III
Junior from Danville, KY….leads the team in scoring with 64 points from 9 of 11 FG’s, 31 of 31 PAT’s and one TD….scored 31 points in October from 3 of 5 FG’s, 16 of 16 PAT’s and one TD….two-time SCAC Special Teams Player of the Week….scored 18 points in 38-21 win over Hanover…named to D3football Team of the Week….made a 51-yard FG in 45-0 win over Austin on September 26….scored 6 points in 24-22 win over Millsaps on October 29 to stay undefeated at 7-0….averaging 62 yards on 45 kickoffs…participated in city park clean-up…served as tutor for local high school students….campus tour guide

HERB GLASS, University at Albany - FCS
Senior from Miller Place, NY….leads the team in scoring with 57 points from 7 of 13 FG’s and 36 of 36 PAT’s….scored 28 points in October from 4 of 9 FG’s and 16 of 16 PAT’s….became the school’s highest-scoring place-kicker on September 3….ranks 3rd in the school’s career scoring overall with 221 points….set school record for career FG’s against Columbia on September 24 and currently has 33….122 career PAT’s ranks 1st in school history…Northeast Conference Special Teams Player of the Week…one of five school kickers to make two FG’s over 40 yards….tied the 3rd longest FG in school history (48 yards) and made a 41-yard FG on the first possession in overtime….averaging 58 yards on 51 kickoffs….participated in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk on October 16….raised funds and walked in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Walk

TAYLOR GROFF, East Stroudsburg University (Pennsylvania) – Division II
Sophomore from Manheim, PA….leads the team in scoring with 39 points from 9 of 11 FG’s and 12 of 14 PAT’s despite missing the first 3 games of the season due to injury….tied career-long with 48-yard FG against West Chester then kicked 52-yard FG on October 8 against Kutztown….set school record as a freshman last season by making 16 of 21 FG’s including making all 12 FG’s from under 40 yards…averaging 62 yards on 30 kickoffs….volunteer for children’s programs at local church….participates in school’s Breakfast with the Warriors during preseason camp…volunteers at Kohl’s Kicking Camps and Special Teams Solutions Camps

CHRISTOPHER HAZELTON, Southern Connecticut State University – Division II
Senior from Bristol, CT…2nd on the Owls in scoring with 63 points from 8 of 11 FG’s and 39 of 43 PAT’s…scored 35 points in October from 5 of 7 FG’s and 20 of 21 PAT’s…..set school record in October with most career PAT’s (131) breaking previous record of 115….tied career-high by scoring 13 points including career-long 44-yard FG in 61-0 win over Pace on September 23….scored 7 points in 31-29 win over Bentley on October 15….scored 6 points in 48-47 win over American International on October 22 including the game-winning PAT with 3 seconds left in the game…..participated in the school’s annual Big Event community service project…campus community Orientation Ambassador

NOAH HEIMER, Lock Haven University (Pennsylvania) – Division II
Senior from Lock Haven, PA….leads the Bald Eagles in scoring with 29 points from 7 of 13 FG’s and 8 of 10 PAT’s ….scored all of the team’s 6 points at Clarion on October 8….volunteer at Robbie Gould’s “Good as Gould” kicking camp…Lock Haven summer football camp volunteer

AARON JAMIESON, University of Central Missouri – Division II
Junior from Cassville, MO….2nd on the Mules in scoring with 61 points from 7 of 12 FG’s and 40 of 40 PAT’s…. named MIAA Special Teams Player of the Week….scored 8 points against Northwest Missouri State on October 8…. 1st place in school history with 145 made PAT’s….ranks 5th in school history with 28 made FG’s….229 career points ranks 2nd among UCM kickers and 4th for all players….Literacy Team volunteer where student-athletes read to local elementary school students….Veteran’s Home volunteer in Warrensburg….Fellowship of Christian Athletes…leads worship services…collaborated with his father at his high school alma mater to start The Character Project where students participate in regular community service

MIKE JARRETT, Eastern Washington University – FCS
Senior from Puyallup, WA….2nd on the team in scoring with 68 points from 14 of 16 FG’s and 26 of 27 PAT’s….needs one FG to set the school’s single-season record….needs 13 points to tie the school’s career kick scoring record of 231 points and currently ranks 5th in career scoring among all players….made FG’s of 41 and 28 yards in come-from-behind 42-35 OT win over Sacramento State on October 22 to earn Big Sky Conference Special Teams Player of the Week honors….scored 12 points in 48-27 win over Northern Colorado on October 15….scored 12 points in 36-28 win over Northern Arizona on October 8….set school records for PAT’s attempted and made on October 15….131 of 138 career PAT’s….ranks 5th in career FG’s made (29) and 5th in career FG’s attempted (45)….assisted the Cheney Parks and Recreation in the ECHO Before and After School Program….volunteered at Salnave Elementary School by spending 30-40 hours helping students with their school work and organizing school activities and games

FRANK KEENAN, Fairmont State University (West Virginia) – Division II
Senior from Byfleet, England....Team Captain….2nd on the Fighting Falcons in scoring with 62 points from 10 of 19 FG’s and 32 of 33 PAT’s….leads Conference in FG’s made (10) which is also the 5th highest in school history….made a career-long 47-yard FG against Seton Hall on October 22….7 of 10 on FG’s inside 40 yards….WVIAC Special Teams Player of the Week….averaging 57 yards on 51 kickoffs….played rugby at a university in England before attending Fairmont State….President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee….organized a Faculty Appreciation Tailgate prior to a football game including recruiting faculty and student-athletes to attend....raises funds for Make-A-Wish….reads at local elementary schools….coordinated the Community Read & Feed program where fans brought food and books to a FSU football game to the student-athletes who distributed these items to libraries, food shelters and schools…was instrumental in involving the school’s student-athletes in the “Paint the Town Maroon” initiative where the teams put up school-themed scarecrows on local light posts…organized events for Pancreatic Cancer Month and Breast Cancer Awareness Month

ERIC KINDLER, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater – Division III
Sophomore from Germantown, WI….leads the #1 ranked Warhawks in scoring with 72 points from 12 of 15 FG’s and 36 of 37 PAT’s….scored 37 points in October from 5 of 6 FG’s and 22 of 22 PAT’s….made FG’s of 47 and 44 yards in 34-14 win over UW-Platteville on October 1….made FG’s from 47 yards and game-winning FG from 17 yards with 1:18 left in 20-17 win over UW-Oshkosh on October 22….averaging 62 yards on 32 kickoffs in October….volunteered for loft takedown and loft delivery for incoming students….taught a beginner-level fistball class in June and July….worked at events to raise money for the United States Fistball Association….usher for local church during the summer….chosen to be starting setter/defenseman for the USA Fistball World Championship in Austria

TOM LYNCH, Saint Xavier University (Illinois) - NAIA
Senior from Frankfort, IL….leads all place-kickers at all levels in scoring this season (NCAA, NAIA, NCJAA)….leads the #1 ranked Cougars with 97 points from 14 of 17 FG’s and 55 of 56 PAT’s… ….scored 64 points during October from 10 of 13 FG’s and 34 of 35 PAT’s….set NAIA single-game record with 21 points in 75-33 win over Taylor University on October 22….scored 18 points in 42-31 win over St. Francis on October 1….set school record for career points on October 22 with 322 points surpassing previous record of 317 points….named NAIA National Special Teams Player of the Week on both October 3 and October 24….honored by Beyond Sports Network as a NAIA National Special Teams Player of the Week for the weeks of October 3 and October 24….set NAIA record for career PAT’s (214) on October 29 with 6 PAT’s in 63-3 win over Concordia (Michigan)….averaging 58 yards on 59 kickoffs….participated in the school’s annual Service Day where students do community service projects….volunteers at Misericordia in Chicago which is a community of care that maximizes potential for persons with mild to profound developmental disabilities….Vice President of school’s Criminal Justice Club….South Bridge Community Church summer day camp volunteer and provides complimentary maintenance and lawn care….place-kicker tutor to kicker at his high school alma mater
