Fred Mitchell Award 2012 Watch List, part 2

A blue-ribbon Selection Committee evaluates place-kickers that are nominated by their schools for the annual Fred Mitchell Outstanding Place-Kicker Award. Members of the Pro and/or College Football Hall of Fame on the Selection Committee include Tom Beck, Kevin Butler, Paul Hornung, Marv Levy, Steve McMichael, Don Pierson and Gale Sayers. Former football players and others that are active in their communities are also on the Selection Committee including Carl Allegretti, Sean Gothier, Teddy Greenstein, Michael Husted, Dan Jiggetts, Rick Kolaczewski, Connie Kowal, Greg Loberg, Tom Lynch, Carol Monroe, Jeff Michalczyk, Mark Murphy, Rob Perry, Jeff Schebler, Caroline Schrenker, Jay Sebben, Bob Thomas, Wolfe Tone, Todd Wilkins, Gary Zauner and Rob Zvonar. There are 10 former college or NFL place-kickers on the Selection Committee, including Schebler (the inaugural Fred Mitchell Award recipient in 2009 and the highest-scoring place-kicker in NCAA history at any level) and Lynch (two-time recipient of the Award and the kicker on the 2011 NAIA National Champion Saint Xavier University Cougars).

NOAH HEIMER Lock Haven University (Pennsylvania) – Division II 
Senior from Lock Haven, PA….led the team in 2011 scoring with 32 points from 8 of 14 FG’s and 8 of 11 PAT’s…made 4 of 4 FG’s from 20-29 yards and 4 of 7 FG’s from 30-39 yards….FG % was 8th in the PSAC….volunteered at Robbie Gould’s “Good as Gould” kicking camp to support the Goulden Touch Foundation….mentored 250 Upward Bound students….Lock Haven 7 vs. 7 Passing Camp volunteer….worked with local high school kickers

AARON JAMIESON University of Central Missouri – Division II 
Senior from Cassville, MO….2nd on the Mules in 2011 scoring with 64 points from 7 of 12 FG’s and 43 of 45 PAT’s…. named MIAA Special Teams Player of the Week….scored 8 points against Northwest Missouri State on October 8…. 1st place in school history with 149 made PAT’s….ranks 5th in school history with 28 made FG’s….233 career points ranks 2nd among UCM kickers and 4th for all players….set school record with a 53-yard FG against Missouri Western….Literacy Team volunteer where student-athletes read to local elementary school students….Veteran’s Home volunteer in Warrensburg….Fellowship of Christian Athletes…leads worship services…collaborated with his father at his high school alma mater to start The Character Project where students participate in regular community service

JOSH KAY Linfield College (Oregon) – Division III 
Senior from Salem, OR….led the team in 2011 scoring with 93 points from 14 of 17 FG’s and 51 of 52 PAT’s….First Team Northwest Conference All-Star…ranks 2nd in school history with 14 FG’s in a season….longest FG of the season was 49 yards…4 of 5 FG’s from 40+ yards…ranks 3rd on Linfield’s single-season list for FG % (82.4%)…made all 10 PATs in 73-7 win over Puget Sound on October 8…made all 4 FG’s in 47-14 win over Lewis & Clark on November 12…made the first 35 PAT’s without a miss this season before suffering his first miscue…ranks 5th in school history for PATs made in one season…two-time NWC Special Teams Player of the Week….averaged 62 yards on 30 kickoffs… football camp volunteer for the "See Ya Later" Foundation…works with the Foundation’s director on developing and managing a Kids Golf Camp for the spring of 2012 with the goal of reaching 150 local youth …competed in golf at Linfield where he helped the school capture the 2011 Northwest Conference championship…competed at the 2011 NCAA Division III Championships

ERIC KINDLER University of Wisconsin-Whitewater – Division III
Junior from Germantown, WI….led the #1 ranked Warhawks in 2011 scoring with 93 points from 14 of 21 FG’s and 51 of 52 PAT’s….All-Conference First Team….two-time Conference Special Teams Player of the Week…tied school record with 4 FG’s in 26-7 win over UW-La Crosse on September 3….made FG’s of 47 and 44 yards in 34-14 win over UW-Platteville on October 1….made FG’s from 47 yards and game-winning FG from 17 yards with 1:18 left in 20-17 win over UW-Oshkosh on October 22….averaged 62 years on 77 kickoffs….volunteered for loft takedown and loft delivery for incoming students….taught a beginner-level fistball class in June and July….worked at events to raise money for the United States Fistball Association….usher for local church during the summer….chosen to be starting setter/defenseman for the USA Fistball World Championship in Austria

JOSEPH MALLOCK Williams College (Massachusetts) – Division III 
Junior from West Orange, NJ….3rd on the team in 2011 scoring with 32 points from 6 of 10 FG’s and 14 of 19 PAT’s….became the team’s primary place-kicker in the 4th game of the 8 game season…made 5 of 6 FG’s and 13 of 16 PAT’s since becoming primary kicker….enters 2012 season with streak of 5 consecutive FG’s….made 40-yard FG with 4:48 to play to lift Ephs to 19-17 win at rival Wesleyan….volunteered with teammates for Habitat for Humanity, cleaning up debris in local trailer park after Hurricane Irene and served food at the Berkshire Food Project….note taker on campus for students who are unable to take their own notes….contributing writer for the Williams Record covering the men’s golf team….volunteer caddie instructor at golf club in hometown

JIMMIE MATTSON St. John’s University (Minnesota) – Division III
Senior from Eau Claire, WI….led Johnnies in 2011 scoring with 58 points from 8 of 8 FG’s and 34 of 39 PAT’s….All-MIAC Second Team for second consecutive season….led conference kickers (MIAC games only) in FG%, FG’s per game and scoring ….tied for 4th on the school’s all-time list for most FG’s in a season with 8….made a season-long and career-long and school-record 52-yard FG to put the Johnnies on the board in the first quarter at Gustavus Adolphus on October 20….named MIAC Special Teams Player of the Week on October 31 and November 7….has made all 15 FG’s in career….averaged 60 yards on 57 kickoffs….is now a perfect 15 of 15 in FG’s at SJU….volunteered with the Eau Claire Area Youth Football camp for three summers….has volunteered with the Eau Claire Salvation Army each of the last four seasons….read and helped at Eau Claire Elementary School as a classroom volunteer during breaks and summers each of the past four years….volunteered with the non-profit Eau Claire Crush football team during summer 2012 including helping in the community and donating all fundraising proceeds to local charities….volunteered with Volunteers in Service to Others (VISTO) on campus organization in 2011-12 academic year including swimming with disabled adults and those with special needs

KELLY MORGAN Western Oregon University – Division II 
Senior from Sherwood, OR….led the team in 2011 scoring with 62 points from 8 of 13 FG’s and 38 of 38 PAT’s…made 4 FG’s in upset win over #15 Humboldt State….led the team in scoring each of the past three seasons…ranked 2nd in the Conference in kick scoring in 2011 and 5th in the Conference overall…summer counselor at multiple kicking camps in the Northwest….gives kicking lessons to local youth
JASON MYERS Marist College (New York) – FCS Senior from Chula Vista, CA…led the team in 2011 scoring with 41 points from 6 of 7 FG’s and 23 of 25 PAT’s….set school record with 49-yard FG in 13-9 win over Davidson on October 8….Pioneer Football League Honorable Mention in 2011 and 2010….averaged 66 yards on 42 kickoffs….led Pioneer Football League in touchbacks for second straight season with 13….Special Olympics volunteer for past three years….Boys and Girls Club volunteer….has helped Coach John Matich at “The Kicking System” camps

THOMAS OBARSKI Concordia University (Minnesota) – Division II 
Sophomore from Burnsville, MN….2nd on the Golden Bears in 2011 scoring with 62 points from 9 of 12 FG’s and 35 of 36 PAT’s….made 3 of the school’s 4 longest FG’s in his first season including school record 56-yard FG on his first FG attempt in college….8 of 9 FG’s inside 50 yards including 4 of 5 from 40-49 yards….27 consecutive kicks made including FG’s and PAT’s….earned National Special Teams Player of the Week honors after debut performance at Minot State….averaged 57 yards on 28 kickoffs….drug education mentor/teacher to middle school children….high school camp volunteer….Feed My Starving Children volunteer….church student leader….Bible Study leader….served on overseas missions trip….helped raise over $6,000 for the tsunami relief fund in Japan…supported and raised funds for Project Rescue

NICK POLLARD University of Tennessee at Chattanooga –FCS 
Sophomore from Nashville, TN….led the Mocs in 2011 scoring with 61 points from 10 of 14 FG’s and 31 of 33 PAT’s….SoCon All-Freshman Team….set school record for most points by a freshman and ranks 2nd with 10 FG’s as a freshman….converted all 9 FG’s inside 30 yards….made career-long 38-yard FG against Western Carolina….made last 8 FG’s of the season….averaged 60 yards on 50 kickoffs…earned the SoCon Commissioner’s Medal…volunteered with the football team and recruited local residents for the Get in the Game initiative involving Chattanooga Blood Assurance and Bone Marrow Be the Match Registry

ZACH PULKINEN Bemidji State University (Minnesota) – Division II 
Junior from Minot, ND….3rd on the team in scoring with 51 points from 6 of 11 FG’s and 33 of 36 PAT’s….4th on the team in special teams tackles with 6….scored 12 points at Upper Iowa on October 1 from 2 of 2 FG’s and 6 of 6 PAT’s….scored 9 points against Minot State from 2of 4 FG’s and 3 of 3 PAT’s…ranked 9th in NSIC in PAT %....averaged 64 yards on 54 kickoffs….participates in the Spring Clean-Up effort at a local park….volunteers at Ducks Unlimited…Twice but Nice second hand store volunteer….volunteers at animal shelter in Bemidji

CHRIS ROGERS Sacred Heart University (Connecticut) – FCS 
Sophomore from Cazenovia, NY….led the Pioneers in 2011 scoring with 63 points from 11 of 11 FG’s and 30 of 34 PAT’s …All-Northeast Conference First Team….All-New England All-Star Team….ECAC FCS All-Star Second Team….set school record for FG% in a season….scored 12 points in 60-45 win over St. Francis (PA) on October 15…scored 6 points including game-winning 22-yard FG in 24-21 win over Dartmouth on September 24….scored 10 points in 34-25 win over Columbia on October 8….NEC Special Teams Player of the Week after win over Columbia...volunteer reader in local elementary school...server in community soup kitchen

DYLAN RUSHE Endicott College (Massachusetts) – Division III 
Junior from Palos Verdes, CA….led the team in 2011 scoring with 102 points from 17 of 26 FG’s and 51 of 53 PAT’s….ranked 2nd in Division III in FG’s per game (1.55) and 27th in points per game (9.36)….NEFC ranks 2nd in scoring, 1st in kick scoring, 1st in FG’s, 3rd in FG % and 3rd in PAT %....set Division III New England record for most FG’s in a season (17), tied for longest FG (55 yards) and holds record for career FG % (69%)….scored at least 10 points in five games in 2011….participates in annual run to raise funds for St. Vincent de Paul…food and clothing drive volunteer at his local parish in Dublin, Ireland…Habitat for Humanity volunteer in Wilmington and Long Beach….volunteers at weekly events with special needs children at North Shore Arc….Open Door Food Pantry volunteer during holidays to distribute food and household products….raises funds for Relay for Life, Walk for Life, City of Hope and Wellness Community

Senior from Goodlettsville, TN….led the team in 2011 scoring with 87 points from 14 of 17 FG’s and 45 of 48 PAT’s….made career-long 53-yard FG in season finale against Eastern Kentucky….All-Ohio Valley Conference First Team….scored 13 points in 61-23 win over Austin Peay on October 8….scored 6 points in 24-23 win over Eastern Illinois on October 22….OVC Specialist of the Week nominee for his performance against Murray State where he scored 12 points….averaged 56 yards on 60 kickoffs….participates in all team community service projects since freshman year including cleaning up Union City Park after an ice storm…Santa’s Village event and food drive volunteer for two years for the Martin Parks and Recreation

JOHN SHAUGHNESSY Northwestern State University (Louisiana) – FCS 
Senior from Shreveport, LA….led the Demons in 2011 scoring with 66 points from 14 of 16 FG’s and 24 of 26 PAT’s….ended 2011 with school record 12 straight FG’s…2011 First Team All-Southland Conference….Beyond Sports Network FCS All-America Team Honorable Mention…4 of 4 on FG’s between 40-49 yards including 42-yard FG at LSU that gave the Demons their first points in 11 games against LSU….3 of 3 on FG’s between 30-39 yards….averaged 61 yards on 51 kickoffs….chosen for team’s Leadership Council…leads team’s community outreach programs including appearances at local schools, the Boys & Girls Club and senior citizen assisted living facilities
