Big Kickers on Campus, 2012 week 1

A summary of notable kicking during the first week of the 2012 college football season: 

Sophomore kicker Sean Ianno hit a 51 yard field goal with 16 seconds remaining to give UTSA a 31-30 win over South Alabama
“It felt amazing. I just wanted to show everyone I was ready to make that kick, just to finish off all the hard work they put in the whole game.”
Senior kicker Jordan Wettstein made a 32 yard field goal in the 3rd overtime to give Minnesota a 30-27 win over UNLV.
"Coach Kill puts us in that situation probably every week. From the snap, the hold, the kick, the guys on the [offensive] line, it was like second-nature to everybody."
Junior kicker Paul Melshen hit a 41 yard field goal in overtime to give UVa-Wise and 24-21 win over Bethel University.

Sophomore kicker Trevor Pinkston booted three field goals, including a 25 yard game winner early in the fourth, as Arkansas Tech won 16-14 win over Bacone College.

Freshman kicker Andy Ellington hit the game-winning 41 yard field goal with 11:14 remaining as Concord won 24-12 over Lenoir-Rhyne.

Sophomore kicker Jordan Williamson made a 20 yard field goal with 13:15 remaining to give Stanford a 20-17 win over San Jose State.

"I feel like I finally put everything from the past in the past and now I can focus on the future. It was a tremendous feeling."
Junior kicker Bobby Hemmann hit a 47 yard field goal with 1:39 remaining to give Mount Ida a 24-21 victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth

Senior kicker B.G. Howell made a 40 yard field goal in overtime as North Carolina Wesleyan won 16-13 over Ohio Northern

Senior kicker Earvin Gonzalez hit a 20 yard field goal in overtime to give Morgan State a 30-27 win over Sacred Heart

Senior kicker Cameron Yaw made a 27 yard field goal with 27 seconds remaining to lift Samford 24-21 over Furman.

Senior place kicker Cody Sandlin hit a game-winning 43-yard field goal with four seconds left as Tennessee-Martin won 20-17 over Memphis

“I knew it had the distance, and when I saw it go through the uprights I just took off running. I knew it was going to have the distance.” 
Sophomore kicker Tyler Strickland's 27 yard field goal in the final second gave Arkansas-Pine Bluff a 17-14 win over Langston.

Junior kicker Jordan Fredo hit three field goals, including an 18-yard go-ahead kick with 1:25 left in the fourth quarter, to lift Wilkes 9-7 over Morrisville State College.

Freshman kicker Christian Clark made a 35 yard field goal with 10:01 left in the game to give Salve Regina a 17-14 win over Union.

Junior kicker Brett Bukari hit a 22 yard field goal with 17 seconds remaining to give Carthage College a 20-17 win over Adrian College.

Junior kicker Mike Meyer hit four field goals (34, 29, 22 & 50 yards) in Iowa's 18-17 win over Northern Illinois.
“I slipped a little. I could see the top of the post. I saw the ball coming back around and then I saw [long snapper] Casey Kreiter jumping up and down, so I assumed it went in.”
Sophomore kicker Ryan Mong made a 28 yard field goal with 90 seconds remaining to give Allegheny a 17-14 victory over Wooster

Junior kicker Patrick Wilson hit a 27 yard field goal on the final play to give Norwich a 26-24 win over Western New England.

Senior kicker Scott Andrews made a 27 yard field goal with 4:56 remaining to give Juniata a 16-13 win over Thiel.

Senior kicker Robert Hersh hit a 47 yard field goal on the final play to give Texas Southern a 44-41 victory against Prairie View A&M.

Senior kicker Brett Baer made four field goals (52, 40, 39 & 32 yards) in Louisiana-Lafayette's 40-0 win over Lamar.

Junior kicker Cody Journell hit a 41 yard field goal as time expired to tie the game and the kicked a  17 yard game winner in overtime as Virginia Tech won 20-17 over Georgie Tech.
“Any time you get a chance to tie a game up with [six] seconds left and you kick a field goal in overtime, it’s always special. My teammates and all my coaches let me know: ‘Hey I’m probably gonna have another kick. We need you out there. If it comes down to it, we need your head in the game.’ I let everything go and did what I needed to do.”
