Draft Preview: Brad Wing

Among the punters eligible for this year's NFL draft, or signing as an undrafted free agent thereafter, is LSU's Brad Wing. He ranks in the top five in the majority of the various draft rankings.

2012 Sophomore Season
  • Opted to forgo his final two years at LSU and entered the NFL Draft
  • 44.6 career average ranks first in school history
  • 48 of his 118 career punts were downed inside the 20-yard line and 39 punt traveled 50 yards or more

  • The 44.8 yards ranked fourth in the SEC and marked the third-highest single-season total in LSU history
  • Set a career high with a 54.3-yard average on three punts against Washington, placing one inside the 20 with a long of 62
2011 Freshman Season

  • Punted eight times for an outstanding 50.4-yard average with two punts inside the 20, a long of 67 and six punts of 50 or more yards against Georgia in the SEC Championship Game
  • Became the first player in college football to have a touchdown negated because of an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty when he was called for taunting during a 44-yard run on a fake punt against Florida
  • Named the SEC Special Teams Player of the Week after an extremely effective performance at West Virginia where he kicked all six of his punts inside the 20, averaging 48.7 yards per punt with a long of 60

2011: 59 punts, 44.4 yard average, long of 73 yards

At LSU's Pro Day earlier this moth, Brad discussed leaving LSU and hoping to land in the NFL:
“I think there’s an element of closure, but not in a negative way,” Wing said. “It’s kind of bittersweet. It’s great being here. Everybody doesn’t get to participate in a pro day. I had a great career here and made friendships I’ll have for a lifetime, but it’s a bit sad to be leaving....

[I expect to] go to camp and try and win a job. If I kick it farther and higher, that should be enough.”
