Draft Preview: Zach Ramirez (aka Zach Brown)

Among the kickers eligible for this year's NFL draft, or signing as an undrafted free agent thereafter, is Portland State's Zach Ramirez (Brown). He ranks in the top ten in the majority of the various draft rankings.

2012 Senior Season
  • Played in the Casino Del Sol College All-Star Game and the East-West Shrine Game
  •  Missed five games due to a knee injury
2011 Junior Season
  • Put together the finest kicking season in school history  to break his own PSU record and lead the nation with 2.18 FG/g
  • named a consensus first team All-American by AP, the AFCA, The Sports Network, Walter Camp and College Sporting News
  • first team All-Big Sky Conference and twice won Big Sky Special Teams Player of the Week honors
  • Fred Mitchell Award Finalist
  • made 16 field goals in a row including his last six of 2010 and first 10 of 2011 to set a school record
  • the Vikings recovered two of his pooch kicks and one of his on-side kicks
2010 Sophomore Season
  • named Big Sky Conference Special Teams Player of the Week after hitting three field goals in the season opener at Arizona State (9/4)... made kicks from 43, 53 and 47 yards in that game... his 53-yarder tied for second-longest in school history
  • following week he was Big Sky Special Teams Player of the Week again after making four field goals at UC Davis (9/11)... also had three extra-points and a two-point conversion for 17 total points in the game
  • selected as the PSU Special Teams Player of the Year by his teammates
2009 Freshman Season
  • was expected to be a backup kicker and wide receiver, but took over as starting kicker right away
  • made 14 of his last 16, with the misses being from 52+ yards
  • led the Big Sky Conference and ranked sixth in the nation with 1.64 field goals made per game
  • twice named Big Sky Conference Player of the Week after the wins over Southern Oregon and Northern Colorado
  • also caught two passes at wide receiver against Montana (9/19)
High School
  • four-year letterwinner in football, he also competed in basketball, track and soccer at McNary High School
  • after starting the season strong as a receiver in 2007, a separated shoulder limited him to kicking and punting duties in the second half of the season
  • an elite soccer player as well, he was a two-time state champion in club soccer

College Stats:
2012: 4 of 7 (57.1%) FGs; 17 of 18 PATs; 29 points
2011: 24 of 27 (88.9%) FGs; 27 of 29 PATs; 99 points
2010: 18 of 26 (69.2%) FGs; 23 of 23 PATs; 77 points
2009: 18 of 25 (72.0%) FGs; 21 of 21 PATs; 75 points

During the Vikings Pro Day, Brown discussed his NFL prospects:
"My mom follows that more than I do. At the end of the day I tell her, I've just got to kick and they're going to like it, and if they don't, we'll figure something else out."
