Fred Mitchell Award 2013 Watch List, part 2

A blue-ribbon Selection Committee evaluates place-kickers that are nominated by their schools for the annual Fred Mitchell Outstanding Place-Kicker Award. Members of the Pro and/or College Football Hall of Fame on the Selection Committee include Tom Beck, Kevin Butler, Paul Hornung, Marv Levy, Steve McMichael, Don Pierson and Gale Sayers. Former football players and others that are active in their communities are also on the Selection Committee including Carl Allegretti, Sean Gothier, Teddy Greenstein, Michael Husted, Dan Jiggetts, Rick Kolaczewski, Connie Kowal, Greg Loberg, Tom Lynch, Patrick Murray, Carol Monroe, Jeff Michalczyk, Mark Murphy, Rob Perry, Jeff Schebler, Caroline Schrenker, Jay Sebben, Bob Thomas, Wolfe Tone, Todd Wilkins, Gary Zauner and Rob Zvonar. There are 11 former college or NFL place-kickers on the Selection Committee, including Jeff Schebler (the inaugural Fred Mitchell Award recipient in 2009 and the highest-scoring place-kicker in NCAA history at any level), Tom Lynch (two-time recipient of the Award and the kicker on the 2011 NAIA National Champion Saint Xavier University Cougars) and Patrick Murray (2012 Fred Mitchell Award recipient and record-setting kicker from Fordham University where his 25 field goals was just one shy of the FCS record).

TAYLOR GROFF East Stroudsburg University (Pennsylvania) – Division II 
Senior from Manheim, PA….led the team in scoring with 93 points from 15 of 23 FG’s and 48 of 48 PAT’s…. 2012 Fred Mitchell Award Finalist in top 10….led Division II kickers with 9.3 points per game….leads active Division II kickers with FG’s per game (1.4) and FG’s attempted per game (2.0)…. holds school records for career FG % (72.4%, 42 of 58) and career FG’s of 40+ yards (16) …. only kicker in PSAC history with multiple FG’s of 51+ yards (has 4 including 3 in 2012) … ranks 3rd in ESU history with 230 kicking points….approaching every major school kicking record…15 of 19 on game-tying or lead-changing FG’s in career including 7 of 9 from 40+ yards….7 of 7 on FG’s in final minute of the first half….averaged 61 yards on 72 kickoffs helping the team rank 3rd PSAC kickoff coverage….volunteer for children’s programs at local church….participates in school’s Breakfast with the Warriors during preseason camp…volunteers at Kohl’s Kicking Camps and Special Teams Solutions Camps….Manheim Township youth football camp and youth kicking camp volunteer 

ALEX HALLWACHS Washington University (Missouri) – Division III 
Sophomore from Chagrin Falls, OH….2nd on the team in scoring despite only playing five games with 26 points from 7 of 12 FG’s and 5 of 6 PAT’s…. Second Team All-UAA as a Freshman….made both FG’s from 45 and 36 yards in 18-13 win at Denison on October 20….tied school record with 3 FG;s in a game including career-long 46-yard FG in 15-2 win over Carnegie Mellon on October 27….led UAA with 5 FG’s in conference games and 2nd in scoring with 18 points in conference games….named UAA Special Teams Athlete of the Week on October 29….New Dimensions volunteer via Koaches 4 Kids organization…volunteered for 8 weeks to help young children in the inner city develop leadership, self-motivation and teamwork skills through soccer 

ACE HENRICKS Monmouth College (Illinois) – Division III 
Junior from Mt. Sterling, IL….2nd on the team in scoring with 57 points from 6 of 6 FG’s and 39 of 40 PAT’s….First Team All-Conference….ranks 2nd all-time in school history with 38 consecutive FG’s made….93% career FG % ranks 4th all-time at Monmouth….97.5% PAT % in 2012 ranks 2nd in school history….ranks 8th all-time in career FG’s made…made FG against Cornell that turned out to be the game-winner…Brown County Action Team community improvement volunteer….Brown County United Way volunteer….Little League umpire…Mt. Sterling YMCA youth basketball coach and referee….West Central Special Olympics volunteer 

ADAM KELLER North Dakota State University – FCS 
Junior from Lewisberry, PA….led the #1 ranked Bison in scoring with 93 points from 16 of 20 FG’s and 45 of 48 PAT’s….2012 Fred Mitchell Award Finalist….tied school record with 16 FG’s in a season….tied school records with 4 FG’s in a game against Northern Iowa on September 29….tied for 4th in FCS in FG’s and 19th in kick scoring….1st in the Conference in FG’s and 3rd in kick scoring in Conference games….scored 12 points in 48-7 win over then #3 Youngstown State….MVFC Special Teams Player of the Week….first year as full-time starting kicker…. averaged 61 yards on 37 kickoffs….volunteer coach for Tri-City seventh grade soccer team…Rosewood Nursing Home volunteer…middle school tutor to special needs students….Special Olympics volunteer….volunteered at Athletic Department’s Halloween party 

ERIC KINDLER University of Wisconsin-Whitewater – Division III 
Senior from Germantown, WI….led the Warhawks in scoring with 78 points from 17 of 25 FG’s and 27 of 28 PAT’s….First Team All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference….enters 2013 season ranked 2nd in career FG’s and career PAT’s in Conference and school history behind 2009 Fred Mitchell Award recipient Jeff Schebler…ranks 5th in career kick scoring in Conference history 

AVERY LLEWELLYN Colorado School of Mines – Division II 
Sophomore from Durango, CO….led the team in scoring with 80 points from 10 of 12 FG’s and 50 of 57 PAT’s….6th in RMAC in scoring….made both FG’s including 50-yard FG in win over South Dakota Mines on September 8….averaged 62 yards on 78 kickoffs….Project Merry Christmas volunteer in Durango where he delivered gifts, food and clothing to La Plata County residents…Durango Downtown Cleanup volunteer 

MILES MACKENZIE Ohio Wesleyan University – Division III 
Junior from Denver, CO….led the team in scoring with 83 points from 18 of 29 FG’s and 29 of 33 PAT’s….2012 Fred Mitchell Award Finalist….led Division III with 1.80 FG’s per game….led conference in kick scoring with 8.3 points per game….set school and conference records with 18 FG’s in a season and 5 FG’s in a game….set school record for most kicking points in a season with 83….ranks 3rd on school’s kick scoring list with 111 points….set school record for most career FG’s midway through Sophomore season and now has 27 career FG’s….kicked season-long 46-yard FG with 4 seconds left in regulation in 17-14 win over Case Western Reserve….Habitat for Humanity volunteer….Bishop Champion Games volunteer to assist track & field meet for athletes with special needs….planted trees in underprivileged neighborhood in Denver….led kicking presentation for youth football players at his high school through Athletics and Beyond

JOE MALLOCK Williams College (Massachusetts) – Division III 
Senior from West Orange, NJ….led the team in scoring with 48 points from 11 of 18 FG’s and 15 of 17 PAT’s….set school record and New England Division III record by making 12 straight FG’s….NESCAC Special Teams Player of the Week….enters 2013 season needing 6 FG’s to set school record with 23 career FG’s….averaged 60 yards on 39 kickoffs….helped cleanup a mobile home park that was destroyed by Hurricane Irene…volunteer note taker for fellow students who are unable to take their own notes….contributing writer to The Williams Record school newspaper….volunteered with football team at Habitat for Humanity and the Berkshire Food project….shoveled snow in public parks and playgrounds….assists elderly in the community….training a local high school kicker who intends to kick in college 

ANTONIO MAYO Fayetteville State University (North Carolina) – Division II 
Junior from Jacksonville, NC….2nd on the team in scoring with 57 points from 11 of 18 FG’s and 24 of 25 PAT’s….led Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association in FG’s and longest FG in 2012….ranked 3rd in the Conference in kick scoring….career-long 45-yard FG was at Chowan on September 29….volunteer President of the school’s Student-Athletic Advisory Committee….SAAC volunteer at the Woodlands Nursing & Rehabilitation Center Valentine’s Day party
