Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 2013 Specialists

Our summer tour of FBS schools looks at the specialists for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

Kicker: David Scully, senior (Dawsonville, GA / Dawson County HS)
A fifth-year senior kicker with a strong leg... has handled kickoffs each of the last two seasons... had 21 touchbacks in 2012, compared to seven touchbacks in 2011... joined the program as a walk-on in August, 2009... was awarded a scholarship for 2012-13
"Offseason has just been lift/runs with the team. Kicking with the rest of the specialist and working operational times with my snapper and holder. Helping some high school kids work their form to help me review my basics and getting some private work in with some old 'gurus' I've known me for a while and know my kicking form. My goal is the same as every other kicker at this level. Be perfect and be the best."
Kicker/punter: Andrew Chau, sophomore (Griffin, GA / Pike County HS)
2012: Did not see game action.
2011: Redshirted.
High School: lettered three seasons in football... selected all-state as a kicker in 2010... was all-region as a punter in 2009... set a school record with a 52-yard field goal in 2008... kicked a game-winning field goal in overtime vs. Greene County... also played three seasons of soccer and one season of tennis.
Punter: Sean Poole, senior (Tallahassee, FL / Chiles HS)
The veteran punter has fought off challengers each of the past two seasons to retain the starting job... was enjoying a solid start to the 2012 season when he injured his shoulder trying to tackle a Miami punt returner... missed the next three games, but re-gained the starting job when he got healthy.
"He is spending his summer interning at a lobbying firm in Washington, D.C., working in the governmental relations sector. He spends a lot of time on Capitol Hill, hob-nobbing with important folks and sitting in on his fair share of subcommittees....
But football has not exactly taken a back seat. In order to get permission from coach Paul Johnson to leave Atlanta for the summer, Poole knew he had to present a plan for football. So when the two met before the spring semester ended to discuss the internship, Poole came prepared. The plan: Poole wakes up at 5 a.m. to work out at the gym, and kicks five times a week at a local high school after work. He has a lined field where he can judge punts and work on his consistency. He also enlisted the help of a friend who used to be a long-snapper at a junior college. Poole also has relied on cousins in the military who are stationed nearby to help keep him in line during his workouts."
Punter: Ryan Rodwell, sophomore (Deland, FL / Deland HS)
A second-year scholarship punter who gained a great deal of experience as a true freshman in 2012... made his collegiate debut in the fourth quarter of a tight game against Miami.
"Over this summer I've really gone back to the basics and have been working a lot of my drills weekly, also I've been working with my snapper, Sean Tobin, getting live game reps working on my get-off time. My goal for the upcoming season is to continue to strive to be the best I can and improve on my consistency."
Long snapper: Sean Tobin, sophomore (Holmdel, NJ / Saint John Vianney HS)
Redshirted the 2012 season after playing in nine games as a true freshman in 2011... can also play linebacker... came to Georgia Tech on scholarship.
