Memphis Tigers 2013 Specialists

Our summer tour of FBS schools looks at the specialists for the Memphis Tigers.

Kicker: Jake Elliott, freshman (Western Springs, IL / Lyons Township HS)
He's competing for the open kicking job.
"This offseason has been lifting and running everyday. I feel this is helping me get stronger as far as adding some yards onto my kicks. We have also been kicking with the whole special teams unit on our own 3-4 times per week. As far as the season goes we are very excited about our first couple games and getting off to a good start. There will be some great competition for spots over the summer and it looks like we will be very strong as a special teams unit especially with Tom horsey returning as our punter."
Kicker/punter: Thomas Farst, freshman (Eads, TN / Briarcrest Christian School) 
High school:  during his senior year he was 6 of 10 on field goals, with a long of 47... made 45 of 48 extra points... had 50 touchbacks on 63 kickoffs... averaged 38.9 yards on 20 punts
Kicker: Andrew Diamond, junior (Madison, MS / St. Joseph Catholic HS)
2012: Did not see any playing time during redshirt sophomore season. 
High school:  Lettered for the Bruins at both kicker and punter ... Also lettered three years for the soccer team
Punter: Tom Hornsey, senior (Geelong, Victoria, Australia / St. Joseph's College)
Hornsey, who has raised his numbers each of his past three seasons as the University of Memphis’ punter and averaged 43.4 yards per punt last season, has been named to the preseason watch list for the 2013 Ray Guy Award. The honor annually recognizes the nation’s top collegiate punter. Last year, Hornsey’s punting average ranked 19th nationally. In 2012, He placed 25 of his 60 punts inside opponents’ 20-yard line (42 percent). Of the 25 punts inside opponents’ 20, 15 of those punts were downed inside the 10 including eight inside the five.
Long snapper: Sam Billings, sophomore (Memphis, TN / First Assembly Christian HS)
2012: Handled long snapping responsibilities in three games as a redshirt freshman
Long snapper / DE: Tanner Singler, freshman (Memphis, TN / Christian Brothers HS)
