Miami Hurricanes 2013 Specialists

Our summer tour of FBS schools looks at the specialists for the Miami Hurricanes.

Long snapper / OL: Paul Kelly, senior (Davie, FL / Archbishop McCarthy HS)
2012: Saw action in 10 games at long snapper ...Made Miami debut against Bethune-Cookman in place of injured snapper Sean McNally

"I have been lifting 4-5 times a week and snapping 5-6 times a week. One of my focuses has been getting more explosive in snapping and sprinting by improving form. We lost our Punter/Holder last year Dalton Botts as well as our Kicker Jake Wieclaw to graduation, so much of the spring and summer has been dedicated to getting comfortable with our new punter/holder Pat O'Donnell and our kicker Matt Goudis, and it’s been going well. I watched film on NFL long snappers and film on our opponents this fall. My goals are to average under 0.70 sec on punt snaps and average under 1.25 sec operation on field goals. I plan on doing everything I can to help our team have a successful season."
Long snapper: Sean McNally , senior (Bakersfield, CA / Garces Memorial HS)
2012: Played in three games before suffering season-ending knee injury against Bethune-Cookman... Served as team's primary long snapper on punts
Long snapper: Ronald Regula, junior (Miami, FL / Palmetto HS)
2012: Member of practice squad.
Long snapper: Frank Gabriel, sophomore (Monmouth Beach, NJ / Red Bank Catholic HS)

Kicker: Matt Goudis, sophomore (West Hills, CA / Chaminade-Madonna College Prep)
Takes over the starting kikcer role following the graduation of Jake Wieclaw.

2012: Played in three games ... Made Miami debut against Bethune-Cookman ... Had one kickoff for 52 yards ... Had 37-yard punt at Georgia Tech in relief of injured Dalton Botts ... Had one kickoff for 58 yards against USF.
Spring Game: made five extra points
Kicker: Zach Costa, sophomore (Hillsdale, NJ / Pascack Valley HS)
High school: for his career he made 19 of 30 field goals, 103 of 112 extra points, and averaged 40.4 yards on 52 punts
"During the offseason I've just been focusing on getting stronger in the weight room and improving my flexibility. At the same time, Ive also been working on improving my technique and consistency."
Punter: Pat O'Donnell, grad student (Lake Worth, FL / U. Cincinnati / Palm Beach Central HS)
"Replacing punter Dalton Botts required looking outside the Miami football program. Pat O'Donnell, a Palm Beach Central graduate, transferred from Cincinnati for his final season of eligibility. He has signed a financial aid agreement with UM and is expected to enroll this summer or fall, according to a school news release. O'Donnell was listed as the No. 1 punter and the backup placekicker behind Matt Goudis. Coach Al Golden said Goudis was competing for both jobs, but said he was more comfortable kicking rather than punting. With the Bearcats, O'Donnell averaged 41.8 yards per punt on 59 attempts. He also downed 23 of his kicks inside the 20-yard line. A season-high 65-yarder came in the season finale against South Florida."
O'Donnell was named to the 2013 Ray Guy Award preseason Watch List
Punter: Ricky Carroll, junior (Mission Viejo, CA / Orange Coast College)
2012: Participated on practice squad.
2012: redshirted to retain eligibility.
