Miami RedHawks 2013 Specialists


Our summer tour of FBS schools looks at the specialists for the Miami (OH) RedHawks.

Kicker: Kaleb Patterson, sophomore (Duncan, SC / Byrnes)
Returning starter on placekicking.

Patterson was named to the Lou Groza College Place-Kicker Award preseason Watch List. Last season, Patterson led the team in scoring with 68 points. He was 15-of-18 in field goal attempts, including 5-of-6 from 40-49 yards in his freshman season with the RedHawks.
Kicker: Mason Krysinski, senior (Shelby Township, MI / Eisenhower HS)
Returning starter on kickoffs.

2012: Shared kickoff duties for Miami, launching 53 for an average of 54.9 yards … had 15 touchbacks on the season.
2011: booted a season-long 45-yard field goal against Bowling Green ... attempted 47 kickoffs, averaging 56 yards.
"They’ve had a pretty good spring. They’ve dealt with multiple weather conditions, from cold to hot to sunny and some pretty severe wind conditions. I think they’ve done a pretty good job adjusting to that as best as possible." - special teams coach Andrew Marlatt on the kickers
Punter: Zac Murphy, senior (Cincinnati, OH / Kings HS)
A former walk-on, will enter his fourth season as the RedHawks’ primary punter … career average of 39.6 yards per punt on 172 career punts.  

2012: Played in all 12 games as Miami’s primary punter … punted 57 times for an average of 40.5 yards … of his 57 punts on the year, 11 went for 50 or more yards and 12 pinned opponents inside the 20-yard line ... had a career-long 74 yard punt against Buffalo
Punter: Christian Koch, sophomore (Bluffton, OH / Bluffton HS)

Long snapper: Bryce Lehwald, sophomore (Hilliard, OH ./ Davidson)
2012: Appeared in all 12 games during true freshman season … was long snapper on all placekicks.
OL/long snapper: Zach Lewis, junior (Mt. Prospect, IL / Prospect HS)
Shared snapping duties this spring.
Long snapper: Nick Walter, freshman (Pickerington, OH / Central HS)
"I have been lifting, running, and snapping everyday since my last high school football game. All of the freshman right now have been taking summer classes and getting acclimated to the college life. Our goal is to win the MAC Championship."
