Michigan Wolverines 2013 Specialists

Our summer tour of FBS schools looks at the specialists for the Michigan Wolverines.

Kicker: Brendan Gibbons, senior (West Palm Beach, FL / Cardinal Newman)
Gibbons was been named to the 2013 Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award preseason watch list. He hit 16-of-18 field-goal attempts (88.9 percent) and 45-of-45 point-after attempts in 2012, while he has connected on 30-of-40 field goals and 112-of-114 PATs for his career. He converted his final 13 field goal attempts last season, ranking as the second-longest streak in U-M history behind Remy Hamilton's 14 straight in 1996. Gibbons ranks sixth in U-M history in field goals made, and his streak of 97 consecutive successful PATs ranks second best behind J.D. Carlson's 126 consecutive. Last season, Gibbons hit a career-long 52-yard field goal at Nebraska, the sixth longest field goal in U-M history.
Kicker/punter: Matt Wile, junior (San Diego, CA / Francis Parker HS)
2012: Appeared in 13 games on special teams as a kickoff specialist and seven games as a punter ... punted 12 times for 35.9 yard average with nine inside the opponent's 20-yard line ... kicked off 77 times with 60.5 yards/kick average and 28 touchbacks ... went 2-for-2 on field goal attempts .... connected on a career-long 52-yard field goal against South Carolina in the Outback Bowl

2013: he will continue to handle kickoffs, will be available for long range field goals, and will take over as starting punter full-time.
Kicker/punter: Kenny Allen, freshman (Fenton, MI / Fenton HS)
High school: made 9 of 12 field goals with a long of 45 yards and also had 39 PAT's. Punted 45 times for an average of 39.6 yards with 17 being inside the 20 during the senior year ... Averaged 39.1 yards per punt with a long of 71 yards and 10 inside 20
Spring Practice Report: "The indoor facility has a very high roof and is rarely hit (besides when Mesko was in there), but this kid was consistently hitting the ceiling and punting the ball over 50 yards. I know it is indoors, but I have not seen a ball “explode” off a kids foot like this kid since Mesko."
Punter: Will Hagerup, senior (Milwaukee, WI / Whitefish Bay HS)
Suspended from playing, but not practicing, for 2013 due to an undisclosed violation of team rules. He'll be working an internship back home while camp is in progress.
Long snapper: Jareth Glanda, senior (Rochester Hills, MI / Brother Rice HS)
Returning starter who handled short snapping in 2011 and both short and long snapping in 2012.
Long snapper: Scott Sypniewski, freshman (Ottawa, IL / Marquette)
“We timed him and his times were outstanding. A good long snapper is getting the ball back in .75, .8. He was getting it back at .65, .75. We saw that and he had the ability to block his gap and said, you know what, we have one more year of Jareth and Jareth has done an excellent job, but we’ve got this opportunity where we can get him. We have this family history, so why not take him?” - special teams coach Dan Ferrigno
