Temple Owls 2013 Specialists

Our summer tour of FBS schools looks at the specialists for the Temple Owls.

There is  wide open competition at kicker and punter to replace graduated Brandon McManus.

Kicker/punter: Paul Layton, senior (Burnt Hills, NY / Ballston Lake HS / Albany)

"I got to Temple in January after graduating from Albany in December for my last year. I thought it was important to be with the team in spring ball and summer workouts to create a bond. I have been in Philly all summer doing runs, lifts, captains practices and kicking/punting on my own. I worked a lot this offseason on my drop and shortening my steps to avoid overstriding. At this level all the punters have the ability to boom it, but it is most important to be consistent. My main goal is to be more consistent than I've ever been in my career."

Kicker/punter: Jim Cooper Jr., freshman (Linwood, NJ / Mainland Regional HS)
High school: three-star prospect by … participated in the 2013 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
"I've been training all off season. Kicking, working out and running a lot. I've been here at Temple since June 27th taking summer courses and doing workouts. My one and only goal this summer is to earn a starting spot. We have some very talented kickers here and it's creating a lot of competition which brings out the best in all of us. This season I hope to be starting and want to contribute as much as possible to help my team win."
Kicker/punter: Nick Visco, freshman (Churchville, PA / Archbishop Wood HS)

Switched to offensive tackle and to jersey #76 in the spring of 2013 after wearing #38 at tight end for three seasons... Started all 11 games at tight end in 2012 … also served as the snapper for the punt and field goal units
