Toledo Rockets 2013 Specialists

Our summer tour of FBS schools looks at the specialists for the Toledo Rockets.

Head coach Matt Campbell regarding special teams:
"We improved immensely on special teams last year. Credit goes to (special team coach) Stan Watson, and a lot of credit goes to the key guys on our special teams. (Senior punter) Vince Penza made great strides last year. We found a system that fits what he does. He does a great job of getting the football where he wants it to go. With (junior) J.D. Detmer, we have one of the best kickers in the country, in my opinion. He’s got a great leg and is deadly accurate. He was good as a freshman but added consistency to his game. The silent leader on special teams is (senior) long snapper Matt Wall. I don’t think there is a more consistent long snapper in the country."
Kicker: Jeremiah Detmer, junior (Hilliard, OH / Davidson HS)
Detmer was named to the preseason watch list for the 2013 Lou Groza Award. Detmer led the nation with 24 field goals in 2012, including 17 in a row to finish out the season. Detmer, whose 24 field goals set the Toledo record, earned third-team All-MAC honors. His best game came in a 29-23 victory over No. 18 Cincinnati when he connected on 5-of-5 field goals, including a season-long 47-yarder.
