UAB Blazers 2013 Specialists

Our summer tour of FBS schools looks at the specialists for the UAB Blazers.

Kicker: Ty Long, junior (Roswell, GA / Roswell HS)
Long was been named to the Preseason Watch List for the 2013 Lou Groza College Place-Kicker Award. He will enter his third season at UAB with 30 field goals in 36 attempts and a career percentage of 83.3 that rates No. 1 all-time for the Blazers. Last season, Long connected on 14-of-17 and booted the two longest field goals in UAB history when he hit from 54 yards vs. Ohio State and 53 yards against Southeastern Louisiana. He has not missed during his career from inside 40 yards, hitting all 19 previous attempts. He holds UAB career record for field goal accuracy at 83.3 percent (30x36) in his first two seasons ...  is a perfect 19-of-19 inside 40 yards on field goals during his career.
Head coach Garrick McGee: "This is a conference where we've got 3-4 really good kickers in the conference. Ty is competing with those guys. There's only one guy who can be all-conference. I bet in Conference USA right now, there's probably four of the best kickers in the country. That slot as the best kicker in CUSA is a hard slot to get."
Kicker: Colin Anderson, sophomore (Stone Mountain, GA / Stephenson HS)
Redshirted in 2011 as a true freshman ... has yet to see any action at UAB ... gives Blazers depth at kicker position.
High school:  2-AAAAA first-team all-region placekicker and a second-team performer as a punter...  hit seven field goals during senior year, four of which were 40 or more yards ... averaged over 38 yards per punt ... competed for the West Team as a placekicker/punter in DeKalb County Coaches Association All-Star football game
Punter: Hunter Mullins, junior (Tallassee, AL / Tallassee HS)
Name to the Preseason Watch List for the 2013 Ray Guy Award
Will be entering his fourth season at UAB and his second as the starting punter after a redshirt year in 2010 ... served as Blazers' backup punter for two seasons before assuming starting role in 2012 ... made the most of the opportunity as he set a UAB season record with his 44.8 yards average... had season-long punts of 61 yards (at Southern Miss) and 60 yards (at Houston) ... had 14 punts that were inside the opponent 20-yard line
Long Snapper: Dallas Noriega, junior (Scottsdale, AZ / Scottsdale CC)
Noriega prepped at Scottsdale Saguaro before playing two years at SCC. He will have three years to play two at UAB.

"He's awesome. He's a great kid. He's committed. He's excited. He's been waiting for this opportunity. He's a very good snapper, very good. He's ready. He's excited. He's very talented. Him and Mullins make my job easy." - Ty Long
Long snapper: Perry Abel, freshman (Columbia, SC / Newberry County HS)
