"I've been working out a lot and took a summer class, kicking about twice a week and doing a lot of prehab workouts to keep myself healthy throughout the season. My goals this year is the same for most place kickers I think, which is to be 100%. But really it's just to do my best for the team. Right now we are battling through camp so I'm basically living in the ice tub, you know how it is!"

2012: Played in all 12 contests … kicked off 29 times and recorded eight touchbacks… averaged 33.7 yards on his 28 punts and six resulted in fair catches and five landed inside the 20-yard line … booted a school-record 55-yarder against Texas A&M-Commerce (Sept. 8) and that came on the heels of a 53-yarder in the season opener at South Alabama (Sept. 1).
Spring Game: averaged 42.7 yards on six punts, placing two inside the 20 yard line
"I've been working hard in the offseason to improve my leg strength and slim down to be a better athlete. Ive also been working a lot of drills and going to work with Chris Shaw at KICKNATION to improve on things that I struggled with during the past seasons. It has definitely been the best spring and most confident I've come into camp since I've been here. All of us are working hard everyday striving for perfection with a goal of being the best specialist group in the country."
Kicker/punter: Kristian Stern, junior (San Antonio, TX / Alamo Heights HS)
2012: Saw action in the final nine games … missed just one kick on the season and accounted for 39 points … was a perfect 24-for-24 on extra-point attempts and 5-for-6 on field goals (83.3 percent) with a long of 41 yards against San Jose State (Oct. 20) … punted 23 times for 913 yards (39.7 avg.), including a season-long 50-yarder against McNeese State (Nov. 10) … also had a pair of touchbacks on his 14 kickoffs
Spring Game:  hit a 44 yard field goal, averaged 30.4 yards on five punts, placing one inside the 20 yard line
Kicker/punter: Daniel Portillo, freshman (Pflugerville, TX / Connally HS)
preferred walk-on
Long snapper: Jesse Medrano, junior (San Antonio, TX / Jay HS)
Returning starter from last year. Also snapped on punts in eights games as a freshman in 2011.
"This summer I focused on being more accurate with my ball and gaining more speed. Worked on losing weight and becoming a better football player. Of course also did weight training and conditioning. My goal for this upcoming season is just to be the best player I can and help put my team in the best chance to win. Also to help our team win the field position battle every game and just keep continuing to have a good career."
Long snapper: Drew Johnson, junior (Denton, TX / Sam Houston State)

Long snapper: Matt Bayliss, freshman (Tulsa, OK / Holland Hall HS)
