High School Long Kicks - Virginia

Our series exploring the longest field goals at the high school level in each state continues with Virginia.
  • 60 Dillon Christopher for Menchville High School during 21-28 loss to Kecoughtan High on November 5, 2011
“It feels great. It’s an unbelievable feeling,' said Christopher over the weekend, not long after he broke the record. The record was broken on Saturday afternoon in a game against Kecoughtan. The opportunity to kick came at the end of the first quarter, when Menchville was trailing 7-3. Menchville had driven to the Kecoughtan 43 and was faced with a fourth down. Coach Melvin Moore had a decision to make. 'Coach M (offensive coordinator Gino Mizusawa) sent me into the game,' said the kicker. 'Before the game, Coach M told me anything from 65 yards and in we’re kicking.' It sounds amazing, but that’s just all in a days work for Christopher. During warmups, Coach Mizusawa determines the strength of Christopher’s leg, and with the wind, he obviously felt confident about Dillon’s chances to bag a big one."
