Fred Mitchell Award October 2013 Recognizees, part 3

The Fred Mitchell Award recognized 35 place-kickers for their excellence on the football field and in the community during the month of October.

A blue-ribbon Selection Committee evaluates place-kickers that are nominated by their schools. Members of the Pro and/or College Football Hall of Fame on the Selection Committee include Tom Beck, Kevin Butler, Paul Hornung, Marv Levy, Steve McMichael, Don Pierson and Gale Sayers. Former football players and others that are active in their communities are also on the Selection Committee including Carl Allegretti, Sean Gothier, Teddy Greenstein, Michael Husted, Dan Jiggetts, Rick Kolaczewski, Connie Kowal, Greg Loberg, Tom Lynch, Patrick Murray, Carol Monroe, Jeff Michalczyk, Mark Murphy, Rob Perry, Michael Ritchey, Jeff Schebler, Caroline Schrenker, Jay Sebben, Bob Thomas, Wolfe Tone, Todd Wilkins, Gary Zauner and Rob Zvonar. There are 11 former college or NFL place-kickers on the Selection Committee, including Jeff Schebler (the inaugural Fred Mitchell Award recipient in 2009 and the highest-scoring place-kicker in NCAA history at any level), Tom Lynch (two-time recipient of the Award and the kicker on the 2011 NAIA National Champion Saint Xavier University Cougars) and Patrick Murray (2012 Fred Mitchell Award recipient and record-setting kicker from Fordham University where his 25 field goals was just one shy of the FCS record).

ZEB MILLER University of North Dakota - FCS 
Senior from Ankeny, IA….leads the team in scoring with 41 points from 6 of 9 FG’s and 23 of 24 PAT’s….scored 4 points in 28-25 win over Idaho State on October 5….averaging 65 yards on 39 kickoffs…. Greater Grand Forks Youth Football League volunteer for each of the past four years….SAAC/Mortar Board Food Drive volunteer….volunteered at the Celebrating Cultures event at a local high school….participated in the football team’s annual Holiday Magic for Markus event….assisted at Feed My Starving Children event to help underprivileged in Grand Forks 

ANDREW MUZLJAKOVICH Olivet Nazarene University (Illinois) – NAIA 
Senior from Vicksburg, MI….leads the Tigers in scoring with 40 points from 9 of 13 FG’s and 13 f 13 PAT’s ...2012 Fred Mitchell Award Finalist….scored 8 points in 20-13 win over Lindenwood-Belleville on October 26 … averaging 63 yards on 31 kickoffs….Orphan Outreach volunteer including mission trip to Guatemala to help the children at orphanages celebrate Christmas….collected food door-to-door for a local food pantry….helped remodel a local home and improve the landscaping for the school’s Habitat for Humanity 

ZACH PULKINEN Bemidji State University (Minnesota) – Division II 
Senior from Minot, ND….2nd on the team in scoring with 27 points from 4 of 8 FG’s and 15 of 16 PAT’s…. scored 5 points against U-Mary on October 12….made career-long 40-yard FG against Winona State….averaging 60 yards on 31 kickoffs….Bemidji Elks Lodge volunteer 

RYAN SAMUELS Louisburg College (North Carolina) – NJCAA 
Sophomore from Fredricksburg, VA….has scored 37 points from 7 of 12 FG’s and 16 of 22 PAT’s….scored 5 points against Monroe College on October 5…. volunteer reader at Louisburg Middle School….Upwards Football Event participant 

TYLER SIEVERTSEN University of Northern Iowa – FCS 
 Senior from Cedar Rapids, IA….leads the Panthers in scoring with 75 points from 16 of 20 FG’s and 27 of 27 PAT’s….2012 Fred Mitchell Award Finalist….scored 11 points including season-long 50-yard FG in 24-23 loss to #1 North Dakota State on October 5….scored 14 points against South Dakota State on October 26 and tied his career-high with 4 FG’s….converted all 4 PAT’s against South Dakota on October 19 to break the school record of 101 consecutive PAT’s….107 of 107 career PAT’s…..averaging 62 yards on 49 kickoffs….Just Read program volunteer to connect UNI student-athletes with elementary school students….Special Olympics volunteer….Kickers in the Midwest mentor…high school football camp volunteer….Salvation Army bell ringer 

CONOR SMITH Carroll College (Montana) - NAIA 
Freshman from Spokane Valley, WA….2nd on the team in scoring with 47 points from 4 of 5 FG’s and 35 of 36 PAT’s….has three tackles on the season….Mental Health Awareness Walk setup volunteer….Habitat for Humanity cleanup volunteer 

DANIEL SOBOLEWSKI Albright College (Pennsylvania) – Division III 
Sophomore from Linden, NJ….2nd on the team in scoring with 48 points from 8 of 14 FG’s and 24 of 25 PAT’s….set school record with 51-yard FG against Stevenson on September 14….scored 6 points in 30-12 win over Wilkes on October 19….scored 12 points in 30-14 win over Kean University on September 7….named a BSN National Player of the Week, USA College Football National Special Teams Player of the Week and Team of the Week after win over Kean….named Middle Atlantic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week after each of the team’s first two games of 2013….averaging 60 yards on 43 kickoffs…Reading Boys and Girls Club volunteer….Albright youth football camp volunteer 

STEFAN TERLECKYJ Wayne State University (Michigan) – Division II 
Senior from Warren, MI….leads the team in scoring with 39 points from 5 of 7 FG’s and 24 of 25 PAT’s….2012 Fred Mitchell Award Finalist….owns school record for the most kicking points (277) which is also 3rd in school history behind two running backs…became school’s career leader in FG’s made with 37-yard FG at Lake Erie on September 21….scored 7 points in 31-17 win over Northwood on October 5….owns school records for most career FG’s (38), career FG % (69%), career PAT’s (163), PAT’s in a season (70), kicking points in a season (106) and consecutive PAT’s made….shares school record for longest FG (51 yards)….averaging 61 yards on 25 kickoffs…helped sell merchandise for breast cancer awareness at a WSU women's basketball games ... collected small toiletry items to make basic needs bags for the Covenant House Michigan as part of the Wayne Cares program ... participated in United Way's Martin Luther King Day of Service by assisting the Motor City Blight Busters with a renovation project in metropolitan Detroit….math tutor….Motor City Makeover neighborhood clean-up 

GRIFFIN THOMAS Jacksonville State University (Alabama) - FCS 
Senior from Snellville, GA….leads the team in scoring with 80 points from 18 of 22 FG’s and 26 of 26 PAT’s…scored 10 points in 34-14 win over Tennessee Tech on October 26….scored school kicking record 16 points in 24-21 double OT win over North Alabama on September 14 including school record 5 FG’s in a game including career-high 51-yard FG becoming 3rd player in school history to make a 50+ yard FG….CFPA National Kicker of the Week and Ohio Valley Conference Co-Special Teams Player of the Week after win over North Alabama….made 25-yard FG as time expired to send game into OT against Murray State on September 28….averaging 61 yards on 50 kickoffs…Fellowship of Christian Athletes….Habitudes student leadership training volunteer….school tutor 

EMERSON UEBER University of Saint Francis (Indiana) - NAIA 
Senior from Fort Wayne, IN….2nd on the team in scoring with 48 points from 7 of 8 FG’s and 27 of 27 PAT’s…scored 13 points in 37-28 win over then-#20 University of St. Francis of Illinois on October 19….weekly volunteer at Fort Wayne Community Food Bank 

BOBBY WENZIG Alabama State University – FCS 
Senior from San Diego, CA….2nd on the team in scoring with50 points from 8 of 13 FG’s and 26 of 26 PAT’s…7 of & PAT’s in two games this season….scored 4 points in 34-2 win over Texas Southern on October 5….averaging 61 yards on 39 kickoffs….Walter Payton Achievement Award….Army Strong Achievement Award…Hornets Elementary School reading program volunteer….active in supporting Multiple Dystrophy research via former NFL punter Darren Bennett whose son has MD….campus beatification projects volunteer
