August 23, 2015 - kicker Jose Borregales commits
"The former Booker T. Washington state-title winning coach and current FIU running backs coach will be reunited with Tornadoes kicker Jose Borregales as Borregales announced his commitment to FIU on Sunday.... Borregales made the game-winning 44-yard field goal, his in-game career long, in Booker T.'s preseason classic victory over Citra North Marion on Friday night at Traz Powell Stadium." - Miami Herald

March 18, 2015 - springs kickers & punters
Kickers, FIU has several of them. Turner did say incumbent kicker Austin Taylor worked hard in the weight room this off-season and has the job going into spring. However, Sergio Sroka and Scott Wade will each have their chances of unseating Taylor this spring and in fall camp.... Punting could be better for FIU this year. Jose Laphitzondo is back and Luke Medlock will join the punting competition along with Chris Ayers. Last season Laphitzondo was called on for the longer punts and Ayers for the punts inside the 20. Both did good jobs in their respective duties. Medlock was a terrific punter in high school." - Panthers

January 28, 2015 - kicker Stone Wilson commits
"IMG Academy punter/kicker Stone Wilson announced his commitment to FIU via Twitter Wednesday. Wilson nailed all 22 extra point attempts last year. Kohl's Kicking Camps ranked Wilson No. 10 in the nation among punters in the 2015 class going into the season. Kornblue Kicking ranks him No. 5 among punters, No. 29 among kickers." - Miami Herald

August 9, 2014 - punting & kicking practice
"Last year's kicker Austin Taylor has been getting the majority of field goals attempts and for the most part he has converted but so have Sergio Sroka and Scott Wade. FIU kickers are still struggling to reach the end zone on kickoffs. The punter's job is just as wide open. Chris Ayers, Karson Dietrich, Jose Laphitzondo and Luke Medlock are all battling for a job that no one has claimed yet.... Three of the four punters each got a kick during the special teams period. Ayers punted for 37 yards. Dietrich's punt went 34 yards and Medlock got off a 40-yard punt with the help of a 4-yard roll. Taylor and Sroka got the field goal tries with each kicker hitting a 42-yard field goal and missing a 42-yard field goal. Both kickers missed wide right." - The Prowl

August 4, 2014 - summer specialists
"Redshirt sophomore punter Chris Ayers lost his job midseason to quarterback Jake Medlock, who transferred to Valdosta State for his senior season. Now, Ayers will be challenged by freshman Luke Medlock, Jake’s younger brother and an All-State punter at Jacksonville Fletcher. And there’s also walk-on Jose Laphitzondo from Argentina. The kicker contest will be between sophomores Austin Taylor, Serge Sroka, Karson Dietrich, Cody Hodgens and freshman Scott Wade. Taylor nailed a 52-yarder last season. But he was only eight of 12 overall and nobody kicked off well." - Miami Herald

April 15, 2014 - spring wrap-up
"No kicker or punter has stepped up to claim their respective kicking jobs. Austin Taylor and Sergio Sroka handled the majority of field goal duties in the spring but neither recalled Jack Griffin or Adam Moss. Former Argentinian rugby player Jose Laphitzondo showed the best leg of any FIU kicker/punter but he is as raw as cookie dough. FIU soccer goalie Robin Spiegel could return for another look in the fall after impressing in his tryout last fall." - The Prowl

February 22, 2014 - kicker Scott Wade commits
"Plantation American Heritage senior Scott Wade, the first team All-Broward kicker for both The Herald and Sun-Sentinel, last year Tweets that he's now committed to FIU. FIU has one scholarship left for this year if it wants to use it. Wade hit a pedestrian nine of 16 field goal attempts this year, but one of the nine was a 52-yarder. He averaged 41.3 yards per punt." - Miami Herald

February 6, 2014 - punter/QB Luke Medlock signs
"Besides competing for the starting quarterback job, Luke Medlock will immediately compete for the punting job with Chris Ayers. Medlock comes from a family of kickers. His father, Ricky, was a soccer player for Jacksonville University and played against the then-FIU Sunblazers back in the day at FIU. And of course, Luke’s brother, Jake, punted really well last year for FIU – including a 70-yard punt at UTEP that was not wind-aided despite the blustery conditions that night in El Paso." - The Prowl
