March 21, 2015 - long snapper John Shannon commits
"In Shannon, the Irish find their replacement for long-snapper Scott Daly. Another Illinois product, Shannon camped at Rubio Long Snapping camp, named the No. 1 long snapper by Rubio’s rankings. Per Andrew Ivins of Blue & Gold, Shannon is also the grandson of former Irish All-American Dan Shannon, who played in the 1950s. From a program building perspective, Shannon’s entry into the program will allow him to redshirt for a season while Daly plays out his fifth year, a strategic scholarship offer and quick acceptance that will finalize the line-change of specialists with Justin Yoon and Tyler Newsome about to take the field." - NBC Sports

February 4, 2015 - kicker Justin Yoon signs
"Nashville, TN, Milton Academy - Kicked three field goals from 47, 32 and 31 yards out--in Under Armour All-American Bowl. As junior in 2013 hit on 38 of 39 PAT attempts and had 38 touchbacks on kickoff. Originally played soccer until turning to placekicking as eighth-grader." - Fighting Irish

December 30, 2014 - Kyle Brindza kicks game winner in Music City Bowl
"Kyle Brindza only needed one cathartic kick to end his Notre Dame career on a high note. Brindza connected on a 32-yard, walk-off field goal to push Notre Dame past LSU, 31-28, in Tuesday’s Music City Bowl, erasing a frustrating finish to what’s been a generally strong tenure with the Irish. The senior kicker missed six of his nine field goal attempts (and had a PAT blocked) in November, as a string of bad holds eroded the trust he had with holders Hunter Smith and Malik Zaire. 'It hurt me a lot these last couple weeks,' Brindza said. 'Going into this game it was just me and Malik clicking on all cylinders, trying to figure everything out. Going out there, my mind is always clear, clear as day. I finally shook off all the cobwebs and was able to trust this guy next to me (Zaire) and that's how we got the game done'." - CSN Chicago

November 11, 2014 - Malik Zaire to take over as holder
"Malik Zaire will start for Notre Dame this weekend, though not in the position many eager fans are waiting to see him play. The backup quarterback will take Hunter Smith’s place as the holder for field goals, head coach Brian Kelly announced during a Tuesday, Nov. 11, press conference. Smith fumbled a hold during a crucial moment against Arizona State, preventing the Irish from closing their deficit to seven. The missed opportunity became even more pronounced when Matthias Farley intercepted a pass on the following series, setting Notre Dame up for a touchdown. Smith also bungled two holds in Notre Dame’s 17-14 win over Stanford Oct. 4, causing kicker Kyle Brindza to miss both attempts. 'We’ve had three drops,' Kelly said. 'Three is too many. Can’t take a fourth. So we’re going to make a switch at that position.' Kelly said that, though Zaire doesn’t have game experience as a holder, he has been the team’s backup holder all season. Zaire is expected to start at holder Saturday, Nov. 15, against Northwestern." - The Elkhart Truth

June 24, 2014 - kicker Justin Yoon commits
"Notre Dame’s recruiting class added another player on Tuesday with the commitment of Massachusetts kicker Justin Yoon. The specialist is ranked the No. 1 kicker in the country by 247Sports and Kohl’s Kicker Rating considers him a five-star prospect. Yoon was in South Bend over the weekend, the second time visiting campus since being offered a scholarship earlier this month. He chose Notre Dame over Boston College, Northwestern, Stanford and Texas A&M. Yoon will enter a depth chart that’s wide open, as Kyle Brindza departs after the 2014 season. That’ll leave Yoon and 2014 signee Tyler Newsome as scholarship kickers, with Newsome more of a punter than a field goal kicker." - NBC

March 3, 2014 - new holder
"Kyle Brindza says backup long snapper Hunter Smith will replace Luke Massa as the holder on field goals and PATs." - @BGI_AndrewOwens

February 5, 2014 - punter Tyler Newsome signs
"Carrollton (Ga.) High punter Tyler Newsome sent his letter of intent to Notre Dame Wednesday...  As a senior, kicked 80 touchbacks in 107 kickoffs. Made all seven of his field goal attempts (long of 38) and all 81 of his extra point conversions. Averaged 38.65 yards per punt on 20 punts. As a junior, totaled 17 touchbacks on 33 kickoffs. Converted 9 of 11 field goal attempts and 52 of 53 extra points. Kicked a career-long 52-yard field goal as a sophomore.... Participated in the Semper Fidelis All-America game in Southern California in January. He averaged 47.8 yards on five punts, with a long of 52, and averaged 64 yards per kickoff on five attempts." - 247sports
