August 31, 2015 - Austin Seibert wins kicking & punting jobs

"True freshman kicker Austin Seibert will handle both field goal and punting duties in Oklahoma's season opener Saturday, coach Bob Stoops announced Monday. Seibert competed with senior Nick Hodgson for the place-kicking gig this offseason. Stoops maintained that the race remained tight up until the coaches made a decision over the weekend. '(Seibert) has earned that job,' Stoops said. 'We feel just over a good number of practices (...) his averages and consistency have just been a little bit more.' Hodgson will remain on kick-off duty for his second season in a row. Seibert also won the punter derby, beating out junior Jack Steed for the job." - Oklahoma Daily

July 31, 2015 - specialists on scholarship
"Senior kicker Nick Hodgson and junior punter Jack Steed — who both joined the program as walk-ons — are on athletic scholarship, special teams coordinator Jay Boulware said this week. Hodgson, who has handled kickoff duties for the Sooners in every game the last two years, ranked second in the nation in both touchback percentage (67.1) and total touchbacks (58) in 2014. Boulware said he was awarded a scholarship at the beginning of the summer. Steed, from Katy, Texas, is a redshirt junior but has never appeared in a game. Boulware said he’s actually been on scholarship for the past couple of years now as he’s waited for his opportunity behind former OU punter Jed Barnett." - NewsOK

April 11, 2015 - spring game
"Nick Hodgson made a 20-yard field goal in the first quarter and a 47-yard field goal as time expired in the end of the first half. He missed a 50-yard field goal in the fourth quarter. March 18, 2015 - spring specialists
"Kicker: Replacing Oklahoma’s all-time leading scorer is no easy task, but that’s the challenge for Jay Boulware and OU’s special teams in 2015. Michael Hunnicutt has graduated, but incoming freshman kicking phenom Austin Siebert will join the Sooners in the fall after being rated as the No. 1 kicking prospect in the nation by ESPN. Nick Hodgson boomed 67.1 percent (58 of 86) of his kickoffs for touchbacks in 2014 to rank second in the nation. Hodgson, Eric Hosek and Jack Braught could all see duty working on placements in the spring.
Punter: Jed Barnett turned in two solid seasons as the OU’s punter prior to his graduation. Siebert was also rated as the No. 1 punter in the nation, but it could be time for strong-legged Jack Steed to get his shot at securing those duties in 2014. The lanky 6’ 5” specimen challenged Barnett the past two years and should continue to hone his craft under Boulware. Snapper: Connor Knight handled placements snaps in 2014 while Wesley Horky served as the punt snapper. Both players return in 2015 and could potentially work on both varieties of snaps in the spring." - Sooner Sports

September 20, 2014 - kicker Michael Hunnicutt sets school scoring record
"Hunnicutt totaled nine points (one field goal, six extra points). Saturday’s effort made him the program’s all-time leading scorer with 392 career points, passing DeMarco Murray (390). 'He’s been great and steady with a very strong leg,' OU coach Bob Stoops said. 'Not that I want to, but he can hit 53 and 54 yards field goals. We have a lot of confidence in that sense'." - Norman Transcript

September 2, 2014 - kicker Michael Hunnicutt approaching scoring record
Before Saturday’s opener against Louisiana Tech, former Sooners and current Dallas Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray texted Sooners coach Bob Stoops. May 9, 2014 - kicker Austin Seibert commits

"Austin Seibert, rated as the nation’s top placekickers according to one recruiting service. has given a verbal commitment to play football at Oklahoma.Seibert, who is from Belleville, Ill., announced his decision via social media on Friday night. He is the fourth player to pledge to the Sooners’ 2015 recruiting class. Seibert tweeted: 'Just Committed to the University of Oklahoma on a full ride scholarship #blessed #BoomerSooner!' Seibert would appear to have early position to replace OU’s reliable kicker Michael Hunnicutt, a senior-to-be who has made 62-of-72 field goal attempts (86.1 percent) during his career. Seibert, a 5-10, 195-pounder, could also be a candidate for graduating punter Jed Barnett’s position. Seibert is ranked the nation’s No. 1 kicker and No. 2 punter by Kohlskicking.com, which focuses on the specialty positions." - Tulsa World

April 18, 2014 - spring specialists
"Already considered among the nation’s best, Michael Hunnicutt is locked in as the Sooners’ starting kicker. Not only should the Sooners feel great about Hunnicutt, he showed increased kicking prowess in the spring game. Long-range field goals have not been a strength for the 2013 Lou Groza Award semifinalist during his first three years, but he nailed two 40-plus yard field goals in the spring game, including a 53-yarder, although it was wind-aided....  Jed Barnett returns after his first season as OU’s punter, averaging 41.7 yards per punt. Much like kicker, there's not much to see here. Barnett was solid during his first season and returns to give OU solid punting in his final year on campus. OU should exit the spring feeling good about both kicking positions." - ESPN

April 12, 2014 - spring game kicking
"The veteran kicker is quite valuable, even when he’s not catching Bedlam touchdown passes. Michael Hunnicutt nailed a 52-yard field goal with the wind and, even more impressively, a 47-yarder against a 20 mph wind." - NewsOK

"Horky, from Ravenwood High in Brentwood, Tenn., committed to Tennessee in late January as a preferred walk-on, but Oklahoma special teams coordinator Jay Boulware reached out a short time later with a scholarship offer. Horky visited Norman this weekend and announced his commitment via Twitter. The Ravenwood High football Twitter account said Horky had signed, but OU spokesman Pete Moris said Saturday night that he wasn’t aware of any new additions to the 2014 signing class. The Sooners are seeking a replacement for departing senior Austin Woods, who was Oklahoma’s long snapper the past few seasons. Horky, a two-star prospect according to Rivals.com, played in the 2014 Under Armour All-American Game." - NewsOK
