South Alabama Jaguars Kicker, Punter & Snapper News

September 7, 2015 - kicker Aleem Sunanon named Sun Belt Conference special teams player of the week
"after kicking two field goals and three extra points in the Jaguars' 33-23 season-opening win over Gardner-Webb on Saturday. Sunanon, a junior from Orlando and a preseason All-Sun Belt selection, was good on field goals of 41 and 28 yards, extending his consecutive field goal streak to 10 dating back to last season. His 9 overall points were the most recorded by a Sun Belt kicker last weekend.
His three extra points made him the program's all-time leader in that category with 64." -

August 3, 2015 - kicker Keller Farni commits
"Murphy senior kicker Keller Farni officially committed to South Alabama on Monday, the Panthers' first USA commitment since that program started football. Farni is scheduled to graduate in December and report to South in January. He was 4-of-5 on field goals in 2014, didn't miss an extra point and placed 82 percent of his kickoffs in the end zone." -

April 11, 2015 - Aleem Sunanon kicks winner in spring game
"The fourth quarter would turn out to be a nail-biter. Matt Floyd redeemed himself from an earlier interception with a 24-yard touchdown pass to DeMarrion Buford-Hughes to make the score 21-21. The Blue team pounded their way down field during the last minutes of the game, but their efforts would be wasted after kicker Corliss Waitman, missed a 45-yard field goal. The Red team then had the ball with 1:35 to go in the game.... Kicker Aleem Sunanon set up and kicked a game winning 42-yard field goal for the Red team. 'Well, I was putting myself in a game like situation,' Sunanon said. 'Just running out on the field and thinking of it all like its practice or something, and you know I got to give a shout out to Carson and Brandon for giving me a great snap and hold. I just stayed easy, stayed through the ball and split the uprights.' The final score was 24-21 Red team." - The Vanguard

September 30, 2014 - change of punter plans
"True freshman Corliss Waitman of Milton, Fla., was all set to be the Jags' starter punter this season. He won the job in a close fall drills competition against sophomore Brandon McKee. But before South Alabama's first game of the year at Kent State the NCAA clearing house raised some questions about Waitman. As a result, he will be redshirted this season and still have four years of eligibility for the Jags. McKee stepped into the starting role and has done well for South Alabama. Heading into Saturday's game at Appalachian State he is averaging 42.7 yards per punt on 13 tries. His longest of the season is a 57-yarder. He has four punts of at least 50 yards, has dropped five inside the 20 yard line and had two punts for touchbacks." -

July 1, 2014 - kicker Gavin Patterson commits
"Gavin Patterson's search for a college home is over. The Bradley-Bourbonnais place kicker recently committed to the University of South Alabama in Mobile, where he will continue his football career and study pre-medicine. Patterson is entering his senior season at Bradley-Bourbonnais and also considered offers from Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Northwestern, Bowling Green, Toledo, North Dakota and Minnesota.... Patterson has been tremendously productive on special teams for the Boilermakers. He connected on 32 of 34 extra-point attempts last season and 4 of 6 field goal tries with a long of 35 yards. Additionally, Patterson had 28 touchbacks on 53 kickoffs, as well as 32.8 yard average on 36 punts." - The daily-Journal

May 23, 2014 - spring specialists
"Kicker extraordinaire Aleem Sunanon returns; however the punter spot is up for grabs between freshman Brandon McKee and Logan Gunn. Receiver T. J. Glover will be the man on both kick and punt returns unless Josh Magee can snag one of the spots." - College Football Universe

April 15, 2014 - coach Joey Jones discusses specialists
"I think our kickers - Aleem (Sunanon) is doing really well and Zac (Henry) kicked a 60-yarder in practice, he's got the leg strength and he'll kickoff; he kicks them in the end zone and out of the end zone and that's really going to help us this year. Aleem is leading the field goal battle. Right now we're a little perplexed at punter. We need to find somebody who's going to be consistent back there. Brandon (McKee) has got to get more consistent kicking the ball. We've got Corliss Waitman coming in this summer who is talented and Aleem actually is a pretty consistent punter. I couldn't tell you where the punting thing is going. Right now it's pretty much up in the air." -

March 28, 2014 - specialists spring update
"The job of punter is wide open. Scott Garber is gone and no one has separated themselves in trying to win the job. Brandon McKee would probably be the leading candidate right now, but there's a great chance the winner of the job will be found in the fall. Aleem Sunanon is back as the field goal kicker, but he is being pushed by newcomer Zac Henry. And Henry appears to be leading the chase to handle kickoffs for the Jags." -
