Troy Trojans Kicker, Punter & Snapper News

March 3, 2014 - new specialists this year
"Troy has to replace Will Scott, a Ray Guy Award semifinalist who also appeared on the Lou Groza Award watch list, and two long snappers – Hunter Graham and Kendall Gibson. Answering that many questions could be a lot of work for a special teams coordinator, but Troy’s Shayne Wasden has already figured out at least one position – punter. 'I feel pretty good about the punting position with Ryan (Kay) there and with Jed (Solomon) probably backing him up,' he said. 'Jed has really worked on his punting and has really done a nice job there'.... Solomon said he is ready to be the next guy up at kicker. Solomon noted that while he aims to make 100 percent of his attempts, he will be happy with 85 percent or better on kicks. He also hopes to earn a chance to break Scott’s record for longest field goal.... Brett Thiesen returns as the holder, but the snapper Gibson has graduated. Wasden said right now three guys --Justin Fuller, Taylor Polk and junior college transfer Dennis Long --are getting looks in the roles to replace him and punt snapper Graham. That battle is one Wasden hopes to settle by the end of spring practice on March 29 – the day of the T-Day game." - Dothan Eagle
