East Carolina Pirates Kicker, Punter & Snapper News

December 4, 2014 - kicker Warren Harvey sets scoring record
"Kicker Warren Harvey set a new school record for points scored in a career during the team's game against UCF on Thursday.  Harvey's 37-yard field goal in the second quarter gave him 289 points, passing Ben Hartman's old mark." - The Score

October 20, 2014 - punter Worth Gregory
"Gregory leads the American Athletic Conference with a 47.0 yards per punt average, and would rank fourth in the nation if the No. 18 Pirates (5-1, 2-0) and their high-octane offense punted the required 3.6 times per game needed to qualify. On the season, the sophomore has punted 20 times, with seven traveling 50 yards or better.... Gregory’s longest work day came during the Pirates 28-21 win over Virginia Tech, where he punted eight times for an average of 47.1 yards, which included his career-long 63-yarder." - Charlotte Observer

September 23, 2014 - punter Worth Gregory
"You would never guess that Gregory is only a few games into his college career. He's punted 13 times for 625 yards (48.1 average) through the first four games of the season. Doll had seen his work for a year, so he had his own expectations for Gregory's debut. 'Since last year, we had him do a lot of work for us versus our look teams,' said special teams coordinator Kirk Doll. 'We knew there was talent there and it was a matter of what he's going to do when the pressure is on. He's handled some things really well and there are some other things we want him to work on.' Looking forward, Gregory sees room for improvement, too. 'I would give myself a C-plus, maybe,' said Gregory of his performance through the first-four games. 'I don't think I'm where I want to be right now. The coaches know that and they know I can be a lot better than I am. I can't wait to be able to show everyone what I really can do'." - Scout

August 13, 2014 - punter Worth Gregory & kicker Warren Harvey
"Gregory spent a year in the storied football program at Alabama before bringing his punting ability to East Carolina. When Trent Tignor completed his eligibility in 2013 with a 42.8-yard average for two seasons, Gregory gave the Pirates someone ready to continue providing an edge in field position.... Gregory will also perform as holder on place kicks, a function that Tignor also handled during his career with the Pirates.... Special teams coordinator Kirk Doll said freshman Jim Squatriglia is also involved in the competitive mix at the punting position.... Gregory averaged 48.5 yards on two punts in the spring game and Davis Plowman had two punts for an average of 48.0 yards. There were no returns in the spring game.... Doll sees better things from  as he approaches his senior season. Harvey was 15 of 25 on field goals in 2013 after hitting 15 of 20 as a sophomore. He made all 50 of his extra-point attempts in 2012. He made 61 of 63 last season. 'Warren had a good offseason,' Doll said. 'There are some things that we've worked on. He's healthy now and he's in better condition. We're being intelligent about how much we kick him and that kind of stuff. He has a fresh leg. There are a lot of exciting things about Warren. Again, Davis Plowman is there pushing him.' Harvey kicked off 86 times last season for an average of 60 yards. Plowman had a 62.6-yard average on seven kickoffs." - Bonesville

April 7, 2014 - long snapper Andrew Reid trying to walk-on
"He is already a part of the ECU spring football team but still has to make final cuts to be on the fall roster.... Reid credits last year’s ECU punter Trent Tignor and current long snapper Charlie Coggins as two who have helped him early on in the process. 'They’ve helped me a lot in just a short period of time while I have been observing and learning and before I get on the field,' Reid said. 'I’m just trying to soak in everything that I can so that I can be ready to go when I get my chance to get out there and start snapping in practice.' Reid is just beginning to get practice time on the field with the Pirates after waiting and observing for a short while awaiting his physical results." - New Bern Sun Journal
