In one of the state of Illinois' oldest rivalry games, the Redbirds (2-1) escaped with a victory over the Panthers (0-3), despite giving up a seven-point lead in the fourth quarter." - Redbirds

September 1, 2015 - Sean Slattery named starting placekicker
"coach Brock Spack named sophomore Sean Slattery his placekicker for the upcoming season Tuesday. November 19, 2014 - kicker Nick Aussieker sets school career scoring record
"A field goal kicker who converts 53 percent of his attempts doesn’t remain a field goal kicker very long. Recognizing the need to improve after hitting 9 of 17 field goal tries as a freshman, Illinois State senior place-kicker Nick Aussieker has done that and much more in his final three seasons as a Redbird. 'My freshman year I wasn't as accurate as I was wanting to be,' Aussieker said Tuesday. 'I worked on that the most. That's one part of my game I definitely feel has gotten better.' Aussieker has connected on 29 of 34 field goals attempts the past three seasons and in last week's win over South Dakota became ISU's career scoring leader. The native of Wildwood, Mo., has a school-record 158 extra points and his 272 career points edged past the 271 compiled by Stephen Carroll from 2001-04." - Pantagraph

October 18, 2014 - Nick Aussieker kicks game winner over Western Illinois
Nick Aussieker’s 34-yard field goal as time ran out lifted the Redbirds to a 37-34 victory on Saturday at Hanson Field.... Illinois State ran five plays to get to the Western Illinois 17. After two timeouts — one by the Redbirds, one by the Leathernecks — Aussieker, who kicked the game-winner last week against Indiana State, repeated his last-second magic. 'I keep my head down when I go through my routine,' Aussieker said. 'When I looked up (after the kick), it was going right through the pipes'. 'They’ve got good leapers,' coach Brock Spack said. 'I knew if he got it over them, he would put it through the pipes'." - The Hawk Eye

October 11, 2014 - Nick Aussieker kicks game winner over Indiana State
"Nick Aussieker called it a 'really casual conversation' with holder Scott Kuehn. Thanks to a pair of Indiana State penalties and a Sycamores' timeout, Aussieker and Kuehn had plenty of time to talk. 'I stepped that kick off at least five times, and they kept getting penalties,' Aussieker said. 'That was fun, though. That was a whole lot of fun.' The fun for Illinois State really came when Aussieker's 20-yard field goal with three seconds left split the uprights to hand the 15th-ranked Redbirds a wild 20-18 Missouri Valley Football Conference victory Saturday before a Memorial Stadium homecoming crowd of 7,534." - Pantagraph

August 9, 2014 - long snapper Chris Highland
"Highland is entering his third season as the Redbirds' rock-solid snapper. The Central Catholic High School graduate hikes the ball with well rehearsed accuracy on ISU punts, field goals and extra points. That talent earned Highland second-team All-American honors in 2013. Sports Network has tabbed Highland as a first-team preseason All-American this season.... Highland is part of what should be a strong ISU special teams unit. Place-kicker Nick Aussieker and punter CJ Laros are also seniors. 'We're very familiar with each other,' Highland said. 'All working together, we're able to get more done and be more efficient at practice than we've ever been.' Highland now finds himself in the role of mentor. The 6-foot-2, 230-pounder is working with freshman long snapper and his likely successor, Seth Combs. 'Seth and I have gotten really close already. He was here over the summer working out,' Highland said. 'Everybody snaps the ball differently, but I'm absolutely willing to help him out as much as I possibly can'." - Pantagraph

(Hononegah HS): Four-year starter for head coach Tim Sughroue ... ranked as the No. 1 long snapper in Illinois and No. 11 in the nation by nationally-recognized snapping instructor Chris Rubio ... 2013 All-NIC 10 selection at linebacker ... was second on the team in interceptions and third in tackles ... helped team to a 7-2 record and playoff appearance ... as a junior, was third on the team in tackles ... was a finals participant in the 11th-annual national kicking/snapping event hosted by Rubio." - Redbirds
