UAB Blazers Kicker, Punter & Snapper News

November 1, 2014 - Ty long kicks game winner over Florida Atlantic
UAB (5-4, 3-2) ended a two-game skid with a 31-28 win against Florida Atlantic on the road in Boca Raton, Fla. tonight on a 24-yard field goal by Ty Long with three seconds remaining.... 'I'm excited. I was just hoping to get the opportunity. We were on our way down here yesterday and me and (punter) Hunter (Mullins) were talking and we said we kind of had that feeling it was going to come down to a game-winner'." -

August 10, 2014 - the kicker & the punter
"It didn't take much time for UAB football coach Bill Clark to learn that he had a special pair of specialists. He didn't determine this by simply watching what they did on the field. 'What's fun to watch about these guys, all our guys work but when you got specialists that don't mind working that's huge,' Clark said of senior kicker Ty Long and senior punter Hunter Mullins. 'They lift, they run, they do everything else, they're leaders, they're humble. It's been fun to step in to all these guys but especially those guys.' He added one more important point. 'Those guys can be some of the best in the country we think,' said Clark. No question that UAB is blessed with one of the best kicker-punter duos in the nation. Long, entering his fourth season as the Blazers' starting kicker, is third in school history in scoring by a kicker with 229 points, was a Lou Groza Award Watch List member in 2012 and 2013 and a third-team Freshman All-America in 2011. Mullins, a starter the past two seasons, earned mention on the Ray Guy Award Watch List the past two seasons and is the 2014 CUSA Preseason Special Teams Player of the Year." - CUSA

July 20, 2014 - kicker/punter Matt Bonadies commits
"UAB football picked up three verbal commitments during its 7-on-7 football camp last week... Bonadies is a 6-foot-1, 190-pounder out of Buford (Ga.) High." -

June 21, 2014 - punter Ivy Wall commits
"Ivy Wall, a punter from Oak Forest Academy in Amite City, Louisiana, has verbally committed to the Blazer football team for 2015. Wall was on the UAB campus Tuesday to attend the One on One Kicking camp of Coach Mike McCabe. The high school player talked with Head Coach Bill Clark and Player Development Coach Heath Thomas at that time. The verbal offer came on Thursday, and Wall verbally committed the same day. 'I think UAB is on the verge of moving forward,' Wall told Blazer Sports Report. 'I like the way things are going.' The kicking camp was Wall's third visit to the UAB campus. He came last season for the Blazers' Junior Day." - Blazer Sports Report

April 25, 2014 - that cat's pretty doggone good
"Those specialists are amazing,' UAB special teams coach Daric Riley said. 'At some point, they've had some sort of postseason accolades and the long snapper is probably the best one out of all of them. I have not seen everybody in Division I football, but that cat's [Dallas Noriega] pretty doggone good. He's got a bright future in front of him.' Ty Long, who has hit two game-winning field goals during the last minute of games in his career, and Mullins, have also picked up right where they left off this spring. 'Ty can do a lot as far as his skill set,' Riley said. 'So far, he's been pretty icy. He's got some guts to him. We put him in some tough positions and he's nailed it every time. That's been fun to see. Hunter [Mullins] has been great, he's been handling the snaps and he's putting it right where we need him to put it." -

April 17, 2014 - spring specialists
"Ty Long (kicker), Hunter Mullins (punter) and Dallas Noriega (long snapper) return as starters. This is as solid of a group as you'll find in the country." -

March 21, 2014 - first spring scrimmage
Overall, head coach Bill Clark was pleased with what he saw.... 'I thought our special teams looked really good. I think Ty Long hit about a 50 or 53-yard field goal. That was big. I thought our special teams looked really good. Hunter (Mullins) punted the ball well'." - Blazers

February 14, 2014 - special teams coordinator Daric Riley added
Daric Riley will join the UAB football staff, head coach Bill Clark announced on Friday.... Riley will be UAB's special teams coordinator and outside linebackers coach.... Both Wright and Riley come to UAB after serving on Clark's staff at Jacksonville State during the 2013 season....  'I am excited to be a part of the UAB family,' Riley said. 'I look forward to coaching current guys like Ty Long (placekicker), Hunter Mullins (punter) and Dallas Noriega (long snapper), who have a lot of talent. I am excited to be in Birmingham and look forward to being a part of the vision that coach Clark has'." - Alabama's 13
