VMI Keydets Kicker, Punter & Snapper News

September 14, 2015 - kicker Dillon Christopher named SoCon Special Teams Player of the Week
"It is the second conference weekly honor of Christopher's career, as he had previously been named the Big South Special Teams Player of the Week on Nov. 11, 2013. This past Saturday, Christopher kicked a 34-yard field goal as time expired to lift VMI to a 43-40 win over Morehead State. His kick capped a 12-play, 72-yard drive that took 2:46 and gave the Keydets the win. The junior made a 23-yard field goal midway through the third quarter to give VMI a 26-17 lead. Christopher connected on all three PAT attempts and kicked off seven times and recorded one touchback." - Keydets

September 12, 2015 - Dillon Christopher kicks game winner over Morehead State
"When Morehead State called a timeout in an attempt to 'ice' VMI placekicker Dillon Christopher with four seconds left in regulation Saturday at Foster Stadium, Keydets first-year coach Scott Wachenheim instantly turned his head toward No. 27 in red on the VMI sideline. 'The thing is I just saw the look in his eyes,' Wachenheim said of his sophomore kicker. 'When they called timeout and the way he started clapping and looked over at me, I said: 'This guy is making this. There’s no way he’s not going to make it.' That’s a great feeling to have as a head football coach when you know your guy is going to make it.' Christopher proved his coach right, drilling a 34-yard field goal from just inside the left hash mark to lift VMI to a 43-40 victory over Morehead State in front of 5,016 fans.... 'I’ve been iced before,' the 6-foot-2, 175-pound left footer from Menchville High in Newport News said. 'You’ve just got to not think about it and just kick the ball. It was all on me at the end, and I knew I had to make it for this team … with how hard they were working today, I just couldn’t let them down. Yes, I knew it was good. When you hit it a certain way, you just know it’s good'." - Roanoke Times

April 26, 2015 - kicker Tommy Smith commits
"The Liberty High senior will serve as an attackman on the Virginia Military Institute men's lacrosse team and as a kicker on the VMI football team. He will also, of course, be a cadet.... Smith made the 2014 all-Conference 22 first team as a kicker and punter for Liberty. He also made the 2013 all-conference second team as a kick specialist." - Fauquier

April 18, 2015 - spring scrimmage
"Place-kicker Dillon Christopher, who was an inconsistent 7 for 13 last season, drilled field goals of 29 and 46 yards. His only miss came from 53 yards. … Punter Conner Hayden, who is Cobb’s backup behind center, had a 54-yarder" - Roanoke Times

April 27, 2014 - punter Billy Hogan
"After some of the darkest months of his young life, Culpeper County’s Billy Hogan is finally catching some breaks. Just six and a half months removed from surgery to repair a torn ACL and MCL, the Blue Devils’ starter at as many as four positions was fully cleared by his doctors on Tuesday. The only possible better news came the Friday before, when Hogan found out he was accepted into a school that was a late addition to his list of college football suitors, but one that he called a perfect fit, Virginia Military Institute. “The military lifestyle is what I’m looking for, I welcome all of that,” Hogan said. “I’m into the discipline and I think I’m a pretty organized dude. I like the fact that it’s going to be so regimented, and I can tell you what I’ll be doing at 7:30 at night.” Hogan will be just another Rat this fall, walking the line, taking grief from upperclassmen and just trying to survive Matriculation Day. But he’ll also be a member of the Keydets’ football team as a preferred walk-on, and has a chance to be the opening-day starter at punter as a freshman Aug. 30 at Bucknell." - The Daily Progress

April 12, 2014 - first spring scrimmage
"Sophomore placekicker Dillon Christopher converted two of three field goal tries with makes of 22 and 21 yards and the Newport News native made good on both extra point tries. Hayden Alford punted twice for a 35.0 yard average." - Keydets
