Ball State Cardinals Kicker, Punter & Snapper News

April 28, 2015 - Alex Egan competing for kicking & punting jobs
"In the recent spring game, former Leo High School kicker Alex Egan made a strong case for playing time next season. Egan punted the ball three times for an average of over 44 yards per kick, as well as made all four of his extra point attempts. The redshirt sophomore is competing with redshirt junior Kyle Schmidt for the punting duties and redshirt sophomore Steve Drida and freshman Morgan Hagee for the kicking job." - News-Sentinel

January 5, 2014 - kicker/punter Morgan Hagee joins team
"Hagee graduated from Plainfield High School in Indiana after playing for Coach Brian Woodard.  He earned three letters for the Quakers and was named to the All-Mid-State Conference First Team and Academic All-Conference squad as a senior.  Hagee, a 5-11, 165-pound placekicker and punter, made 11-of-14 field goals with a long of 49 as a senior.  He connected on 25-of-26 extra point kicks and averaged 35.8 yards per punt in his final season.  In his career, Hagee made 16-of-21 field goals and 58-60 extra points while averaging 36.0 yards per punt.  He set the Plainfield school records for field goals in a game (3), field goals in a season (11) and field goals in a career (16).  Hagee was named to the Indiana Football Coaches Association Top-50 All-State Team plus was selected All-Hendricks County as a senior." - Ball State Sports

October 25, 2014 - Scott Secor kicks record five field goals in win over Akron
"The Ball State football team scored 29 unanswered points Saturday to overcome a 15-point second-quarter deficit on the way to a 35-21 victory over Akron. Scott Secor set a Scheumann Stadium record with five field goals and the Cardinals generated five turnovers for the second consecutive week.... Secor attempted seven field goals on the day, making five of them to set a career high and tie the Ball State single-game record. The senior who had four field goals and a game-winning 55-yarder last week at Central Michigan, became the first kicker in the country to reach 20 field goals this season." - WANE

October 18, 2014 - Scott Secor kicks 55 yard game winner over Central Michigan
"The kick knuckled through the cold October air, tumbling and twisting violently to the right before sliding through the lower right corner of the goalpost. Kelly Shorts Stadium went silent as Ball State kicker Scott Secor pumped his fist. He had nailed a 55-yard field goal with just 17 seconds left to give his team a 32-29 win against Central Michigan. It was an ugly, awkward line drive that couldn’t have looked more beautiful to the Ball State team that snapped a five-game losing streak. Even Secor was stunned it went through. 'I don’t know how that got through. Man, that was my luckiest kick ever,' he said to teammate Jahwan Edwards after the game. 'I line-drived the st out of that thing.' The kick was a career-long for Secor, as Ball State had just enough offense and defense to pull out the victory." - Ball State Daily

August 19, 2014 - new holder
"A significant part of getting the kick to go through the uprights starts with the holder. Where the ball is placed on the ground and how the holder positions it can make or break a kick, Scott Secor said. Last season, his holder was usually former quarterback Keith Wenning. This season, backup quarterback Kyle Kamman is the scheduled holder. Secor said after working together all summer, chemistry developed between them, and now they are on the same page." - Ball State Daily

June 23, 2014 - kicker Morgan Hagee commits
"Plainfield High School senior-to-be Morgan Hagee said the coaching staff was the biggest reason he chose to commit to Ball State on Monday.... The 5-11, 165-pound Hagee also punts for Plainfield but was recruited as a field goal kicker, he said. Ball State was his first offer. Purdue was recruiting him but hadn't made an offer.... Hagee played in just the first two games last season after breaking the tibia in his leg in practice. 'I ended up making a strong recovery,' he said. As a sophomore, he hit five of seven field goals with a long of 42, a game-winner which beat Decatur Central. Hagee said he has kicked a 63-yard field goal in practice." - Indianapolis Star

April 26, 2014 - Kicker Scott Secor
"Kicker Scott Secor had some shaky moments early last year but settled in as a quality kicker and remains the kick off specialist as well." - Saturday Edge

April 19, 2014 - spring scrimmage
"Kicker Cody Dickson made field goals of 18, 37 and 28 yards, while freshman Steve Drida had his lone attempt blocked." - The Star Press

March 3, 2014 - Punter Kyle Schmidt
"Punter Kyle Schmidt (Chesterton), who came to Ball State as a preferred walk-on, has been granted a full scholarship. He earned it by averaging 40.9 yards with 15 of his 45 kicks inside the twenty. Schmidt’s season-best was a 62-yarder against Akron." - Post-Tribune
