FC Porto striker Vincent Aboubacar lost a penalty appeal after being fouled inside the box by the Mauritanian keeper, before having a goal disallowed for an offside position. But the former FC Lorient, Valenciennes and Coton Sport hitman took the sweetest of revenge when he finally broke the deadlock on the stroke of full time to hand the locals the full points." - MTN Football

January 20, 2015 - Ambroise Oyongo scores equalizer in draw with Mali
"We are still without a winner in Group D of the 2015 African Cup of Nations as Mali and Cameroon played to a 1-1 draw at the Estadio De Malabo on Tuesday night.... In the 70th minute the game saw its first goal when a Seydou Keita free-kick into the box was controlled superbly by Sambou Yatabare on his chest before volleying home from eight-yards out to give Mali the lead, 1-0. Cameroon, though, were not going to go down without a fight and hit back six minutes from time when Ambroise Oyongo took one magnificent touch to control a ball over the defence before passing into the net from close range, 1-1." - Soccer Laduma

January 6, 2015 - Alex Song retires
"Midfielder Alex Song has announced his immediate retirement from international football. The on-loan West Ham United player has not played for his country since being sent off against Croatia in the group stages of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ and had also been left out of their squad for the upcoming CAF Africa Nations Cup. However, the Hammers feared they would lose Song for the rest of the month after he flew back to his homeland to discuss his international future with the Cameroon Football Federation and the possibility of appearing in the continental cup competition. Those fears have now been allayed, with Song announcing in a statement released to Press Association Sport that he has decided to quit the national team. "Since the World Cup in the summer and my subsequent exclusion from the Cameroon squad for the African Cup of Nations I have taken the decision to retire from international football," he said.... Song made his Cameroon debut against Morocco in November 2005 and has won 49 caps for his country. His last appearance finished in ignominious fashion though, shown a straight red card in a 4-0 World Cup defeat for striking Croatia forward Mario Mandzukic in the back with his elbow in an off-the-ball incident before half-time." - FIFA

December 24, 2014 - no Song
"Cameroon has left in-form West Ham United midfielder Alex Song out of their 23-man squad for next month’s African Nations Cup (Afcon) finals in Equatorial Guinea, which was named on Tuesday. Song had asked the English Premier League club to be released for the tournament despite fears over the Ebola virus, but is not in the plans of coach Volker Finke, who has ignored the 27-year-old since this year’s World Cup in Brazil. Song was sent off for elbowing Croatia striker Mario Mandzukic in a 4-0 group stage World Cup defeat and handed a three-match ban from competitive internationals by Fifa. Song’s omission will be a relief for West Ham manager Sam Allardyce, who is expected to lose defensive duo Diafra Sakho and Cheikhou Kouyate for the tournament, with Senegal’s squad scheduled to be announced on Friday. Finke has retained just eight players from the squad that crashed out of the World Cup at the group stage without earning a point and having scored one goal while conceding nine. The Afcon team is likely to be captained by Sevilla midfielder Stephane Mbia." - Mail & Guardian

November 15, 2014 - Vincent Aboubakar scores in win over DR Congo

"The Red Bulls' wide-man continues his breakout year with another international call-up... Ambroise Oyongo has kept his place in Cameroon's squad for its 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign. Head coach Volker Finke named Oyongo to his 23-man roster for the Indomitable Lions' concluding matches in Group D of ACN qualifying: against the Democratic Republic of Congo on November 15 in Yaounde (Cameroon), and a trip to Ivory Coast on November 19.... Oyongo has started three of the four matches his national team has played in this round of qualifying - all wins. He was not selected for Cameroon's 0-0 draw with Sierra Leone." - Once a Metro

October 15, 2014 - Leonard Kweuke & Stephane Mbia score in win over Sierra Leone
"First half goals from Leonard Kweuke and Stephane Mbia handed Cameroon a 2-0 win over Sierra Leone in their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Wednesday afternoon. The home side took the lead as early as the fourth minute, as Leonard Kweuke rose highest head home into the far corner. Three minutes later and their lead was doubled from another dead-ball situation, this time Captain Stephane Mbia thumping a header beyond the Sierra Lone shot-stopper. Mbia almost added a second in the eighth minute but Solomon Morris pulled off a fine save to palm the defender's header away." - Soccer Laduma

September 10, 2014 - Aboubakar & Njie each scor braces in win over Ivory Coast
"Cameroon has continued their impressive campaign for qualification for African Cup of Nations (AFCON) by dismantling the start-studded Ivorian team 4-1.... Vincent Aboubakar and Clinton Njie both scored a brace each to give the hosts a resounding victory.... A deflection off a defender helped Njie put Cameroon ahead on 15 minutes only for Yaya Toure to level 10 minutes later when he slid in to convert a cross. Aboubakar intercepted a headed back-pass for fire past veteran goalkeeper Boubacar Barry and give the home team a 2-1 half-time lead. "Cameroon put a desperate World Cup behind them, kicking off their African Nations Cup campaign on Saturday with goals from debutant Clinton Njie and lead striker Vincent Aboubakar in a 2-0 away victory over the Democratic Republic of Congo.... Njie, with just a handful of games at Olympique Lyonnaise to his name, was among the new players and capped a strong first- half performance when he beat advancing goalkeeper Robert Kidiaba to the ball to score just before the interval. Aboubakar added the second eight minutes from time with a stinging shot after cutting inside two defenders." - DNA

August 28, 2014 - Samuel Eto'o retires
"Samuel Eto'o has retired from international duty after being stripped of the Cameroon captaincy. Eto'o was replaced as national skipper by Stephan M'Bia on Tuesday, and almost immediately has withdrawn his services to coach Volker Finke.... Eto'o, who on Tuesday penned a two-year deal with Premier League side Everton, made his Cameroon debut as a 15-year-old against Costa Rica. He was the youngest player at the 1998 World Cup after being called up by Claude Le Roy at the age of 17. The 33-year-old has won almost everything there is to win at club level, and he also enjoyed success with his country, claiming gold at the 2000 Olympics as well as two Africa Cup of Nations titles in 2000 and 2002." - Goal

June 15, 2014 - injured Samuel Eto'o to miss Croatia match
"Striker Samuel Eto'o has confirmed that he is unlikely to play any part in Wednesday's World Cup Group A match against Croatia due to a knee injury. The Chelsea forward missed two days of training due to a knee complaint, which has been troubling him since the end of the Premier League season. As a result, Cameroon's all-time top goalscorer will be unable to help his nation as they bid to pick up their first points of the campaign. Eto'o wrote on Twitter: "The doctors confirm! I would probably not be able to play the match vs Croatia on Wed June 18th due to an injury on my knee causing me pain. Cameroon suffered a 1-0 defeat to Mexico in their opening match of the tournament last week." - Sports Mole

June 6, 2014 - Edgar Salli scores in win over Moldova
"Cameroon completed their World Cup warm-up programme with a 1-0 win over Moldova in front of their home fans in Yaounde on Saturday. Midfielder Edgar Salli scored the only goal on the half-hour mark, in a game which the hosts dominated. Achille Webo could have doubled the score, hitting the post in the first half. Captain Samuel Eto'o did not appear in the Indomitable Lions' line-up, heightening concerns over his fitness. Their talismanic skipper spent much of the pre-tournament training camp in Austria over the last fortnight on the sidelines being treated." - BBC

All four goals came in an entertaining second-half as Cameroon, coached by German Volker Finke, came within a whisker of a historic first win over Germany. The Africans took a shock lead through Chelsea's Samuel Eto'o on 62 minutes only for Germany to equalise four minutes later through Thomas Mueller.
