Idaho State Bengals Kicker, Punter & Snapper News

September 10, 2014 - long snapper Andy Burtenshaw
"Former Pocatello standout Andy Burtenshaw is the first long snapper Mike Kramer has ever recruited on scholarship. And two games into his freshman season, Burtenshaw will take over as Idaho State’s long snapper after senior Jake Belnap went down with an injury against Utah State. Kramer said Belnap will be unavailable for about two months." - ISJ Sports

August 27, 2014 - punter C.J. Reyes
"Reyes (a senior) returns as ISU's punter. The Bengals typically roll out on punts, and Reyes fits the style well. He averaged 38.5 yards per punt last season on 66 punts (with a long of 65 yards). Additionally, he only had one touchback last season and no blocked punts. In 2012, Reyes averaged 40.2 yards on 59 punts. He clearly has a decent leg and should be as good or better this season than in previous seasons." - Block U

August 16, 2014 - kicker Zak Johnson
"Johnson spent his true freshman season sitting on the bench, observing and learning from Brendon Garcia. This year the job is all his. But after such a shaky spring, head coach Mike Kramer had his concerns. And, frankly, he still does. 'He’s not a Division I kicker yet,' Kramer said. 'He’s never kicked in a game. He has no idea what it’s going to be like until he has to do it and it’ll be a painful process. It always is. Freshman kickers, they will take your hair off'.... And about that lousy spring? Johnson shrugged it off, went back home to Boise this past summer and got to work. He would go to Meridian High School and kick there, and his own backyard has a field goal. 'I feel like I learned a lot. ... I got to the point where I feel I need to be to start this year,' Johnson said. 'I felt like by the time this camp hit I would be hitting the ball pretty well'.” - Idaho State Journal

April 26, 2014 - Dave Kragthorpe Classic
