October 5, 2015 - punter Nick Jacobs earns weekly AAC honors
"sophomore punter Nick Jacobs has been named the American Athletic Conference's Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in the Tigers' 24-17 win over USF last week. Jacobs became the second Memphis punter in as many weeks to be named The American's Special Teams Player of the Week. Last week Spencer Smith averaged 52.7 yards on six punts as the Tigers defeated Cincinnati 53-46.... Against USF last Friday night, Jacobs pinned the Bulls inside their own 20-yard line with all six of his punts. Jacobs averaged 36 yards on his career-high six punts. Three were downed on fair catches inside the 10.The Bulls did not have an opportunity return a punt during the game. Their average starting field position after Jacobs' punts was the USF 9-yard line." - Tigers

September 28, 2015 - punter Spencer Smith earns weekly AAC honors
"sophomore punter Spencer Smith was named the American Athletic Conference's Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in the Tigers' 53-46 win over Cincinnati last Thursday night. Smith averaged 52.7 yards on six punts in the Cincinnati win as the Tigers improved to 4-0 and opened American play with a victory over the conference's preseason favorite. In the win, Smith flipped field position with each of his punt including three after the Tigers were pinned inside their own 20. Smith had four punts of 50-plus yards including a career-long, 72-yarder which was his only touchback. The 72-yard punt is currently the eighth-longest punt in NCAA FBS Football this season.Even without the punt of 72 yards, Smith averaged 48.8 yards over the other five punts in the Cincinnati game. The 52.7-yard performance tied for the third-best punting performance in program history.For the year, the sophomore from Newnan, Ga., is averaging 49.9 yards per punt which ranks third nationally. Of his 15 punts, nine have been 50-plus yards and five have been downed inside opponents' 20." - Tigers

September 21, 2015 - kicker Jake Elliott earns weekly AAC honors
"junior kicker Jake Elliott was named the American Athletic Conference special teams player of the week today, the fifth time in his career that he's received the honor.  No other active player in the conference has received more than three weekly awards. Elliott converted all three of his field goal attempts Saturday in a 44-41 victory over Bowling Green, including a 29-yarder in the fourth quarter that sealed the win. He also made 34- and 52-yarders and converted all five of his extra points. He has not missed a field goal or extra point in 2015." - Commercial Appeal

September 19, 2015 - Jake Elliott kicks game winner over Bowling Green
"In a battle of two high-powered offenses, Memphis edged Bowling Green for a 44-41 win at Doyt Perry Stadium Saturday. In the end, it was the Tigers defense and special teams that separated the two foes. Junior place-kicker Jake Elliott scored the winning points on a 29-yard field goal with 7:35 left in the game. Elliott also had field goals of 52 yards and 38 yards in the contest. Bowling Green's kicker Tyler Tate missed his only field goal attempt and was unable to convert one of the team's extra-point attempts." - Tigers

November 7, 2014 - Jake Elliott kicks game winner over Temple
A perfectly executed two-minute drill Friday night at Lincoln Financial Field that the Philadelphia Eagles would have proudly claimed ended with more than a game-winning kick for the University of Memphis.Jake Elliott's 31-yard field goal as time expired lifted the U of M to a 16-13 American Athletic Conference victory over Temple and made the Tigers (6-3) bowl eligible for the first time since 2008.... Temple had tied the score with 2:46 to go on a field goal by Austin Jones, but Memphis took over at the 20 and moved methodically deep into Owl territory as time wound down. Elliott's game-winner was one of three field goals he kicked in the game. "His solid rookie season has him strolling through camp with an extra kick in his, well, kicks. 'This camp I just feel way more comfortable knowing I’ve gone through it once and knowing what to expect,' Elliott said....
