Mfon, who netted twenty three goals in the 2013/14 Nigeria Professional Football League season stunned Yemen in the 25th minute with the only goal of the first 45 minutes.... A fine strike from in-demand central defender Egwuekwe in the 64th minute ensured that the Eagles ended the Tour on a high note." - SL10

December 4, 2014 - Obafemi Martins retires
"Seattle Sounders marksman Obafemi Martins has announced his retirement from international football, a decade after making his debut against Republic of Ireland. The former Inter Milan and Newcastle United player has lifted the lid, saying he was forced to make this decision because he does not have a good relationship with his teammates in the Super Eagles setup. 'No, I am done with my national team, I will not go there any more. I do not have good relationships with some companions,' Obafemi Martins said in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport. 'If they do not want me anymore, patience. I love my country, I have given so much. But there are problems and although I am called up, I do not go.' Obafemi Martins scored 18 goals for the Super Eagles internationally, and has not been officially summoned to the national team for the past 21 months." - The Nation

November 15, 2014 - Ikechukwu Uche & Aaron Samuel score in win over Congo
"Nigeria kept their 2015 Africa Cup of Nations dreams alive with a 2-0 win over Congo on Saturday. The Super Eagles knew going into the clash that a win would put them in the mix in Group A once again.... The teams went into the dressing rooms at 0-0, but around the hour mark there was high drama at both ends of the pitch. In the 58th minute, Stephen Keshi's men were awarded a penalty. Massa Mohikola Chansel charged at Emmanuel Emenike who won the spot kick. Ikechukwu Uche took the responsibility and netted it with a low shot to Chansel's left. The celebrations weren't even over yet when Congo had a penalty of their own at the other end of the field. Only four minutes after the Super Eagles' breakthrough, Oboabona conceded a penalty when he put a hand in the way of a shot at goal. Bifoum took the spot kick but Enyeama punched it away to keep the travelers in front. The win was put beyond doubt in the 90th minute as substitute Aaron Samuel made it 2-0 against the run of play." - Soccer Laduma

The 30, 000 capacity edifice will play host to a home based Super Eagles team that will be lead by Gombe United's Chigozie Agbim and Super Eagles regular Azubuike Egwuekwe. The list also has Christian Pyagbara who has been in impressive form in the Glo Nigeria Professional Football League as well as Dolphin's Emem Uduok who recently bagged a double hattrick and has a goal tally of 20 in the league. October 15, 2014 - Ahmed Musa scores brace in win over Sudan
"CSKA Moscow winger Ahmed Musa, was the star of the show, as the Super Eagles battled to a 3-1 win over Sudan in Abuja on Wednesday....  Nigeria only found the breakthrough early in the second half, after Musa pounced to give the Eagles the lead. A defensive lapse allowed the visitors to equalize just a few minutes later. Debutant Aaron Samuel also capitalized on a mix-up in the Sudanese defence, to prod in Nigeria’s second. Keshi’s men were hanging on for all three points, before Musa stole the ball from a defender and smashed home expertly." - Daily Post

September 26, 2014 - roster call ups
"Lille goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama and England-based forward Victor Moses have been recalled by Nigeria for next month's 2015 CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header against Sudan. Enyeama was excused from this month's qualifiers against Congo and South Africa to attend to pressing family problems, while Moses was left out as coach Stephen Keshi said he was off form. However, Ikechukwu Uche has again been overlooked by Keshi, who said the Villarreal striker insists on being begged to play for his country. The player has denied this. Keshi has called up several new faces though, in China-based Aaron Samuel, Sunday Emmanuel, who plays in Austria, Hope Akpan of English side Reading and Anyora Ugonna, who plies his trade in Norway." - FIFA

June 21, 2014 - Peter Odemwingie scores in win over Bosnia-Herzegovina
"It has been 16 years in coming, but a fine goal from Peter Odemwingie, a generous linesman’s flag and the tactical acumen of Stephen Keshi combined to end Nigeria’s run of nine World Cup games without a win. A draw against Argentina in their final game will see them into the last 16. Bosnia-Herzegovina’s first World Cup as an independent nation, though, is over.... Nigeria opened the scoring on the half hour, Emmanuel Emenike pulling wide form the centre-forward position, out-muscling Spahic and cutting the ball back for Odemwingie to fire in through the legs of Asmir Begovic, his Stoke City team-mate." - Guardian

June 8, 2014 - Echiejile out, Uzoenyi in
"Rangers striker Ejike Uzoenyi is to be recalled to Nigeria's World Cup squad as a replacement for leftback Elderson Echiejile who has been ruled out of the tournament after tearing a muscle. Last week when Nigeria played a friendly against Greece, Echiejile limped off injured in the 41st with what appeared to be a hamstring injury. He has since been undergoing medical treatment and team doctors fear that he will now not be fit enough to participate in the tournament. Super Eagles head coach Stephen Keshi has thus decided to recall Uzoenyi, who wept on the team bus on the way back to the hotel in Philadelphia after being informed that he had been dropped from the original squad.  Echiejile's muscle tear is expected to side-line him for at least two weeks and Keshi is not willing to take the risk of travelling with an injured player to Brazil." - Nigerian Watch

May 28, 2014 - Uche Nwofor & Michael Uchebo score in 2-2 draw with Scotland
"A late Uche Nwofor strike rescued a draw for Nigeria against Scotland on Wednesday. In the first of three friendlies in the build-up to Brazil, Stephen Keshi left the likes of Vincent Enyeama and John Obi Mikel out of the matchday squad against a Scotland side resurgent under Gordon Strachan. Scotland are now six games unbeaten but were denied a fifth win in that run by Nwofor's late equaliser at Craven Cottage. Charlie Mulgrew gave them the lead 10 minutes in when he produced a clever flick to divert James Morrison's long-distance effort over Nigeria's second-choice goalkeeper Austin Ejide. However, Nigeria were level four minutes before the break when Michael Uchebo's effort from outside of the area was deflected in off Grant Hanley." - Goal

May 6, 2014 - Obafemi Martins Don't make World Cup roster
"Nigeria national team coach Stephen Keshi announced his 30-player provisional roster Tuesday for next month’s World Cup, and Seattle Sounders forward Obafemi Martins isn’t on it. Despite a recent run of good form with his MLS club, Martins was not among the 10 forwards called up by Keshi, a list that includes mainstays such as Emmanuel Emenike, the top scorer for last year’s Africa Cup of Nations squad, Peter Odemwingie and Shola Ameobi. Martins, who has scored 18 goals on 38 caps in a somewhat rocky relationship with Nigeria, was called up just once last year. He has four assists and four goals for the Sounders so far this season. Other regulars on the roster, which includes 19 returning players from the Nations Cup squad, include John Mikel Obi of Chelsea and Liverpool's Victor Moses." - MLS
