Chattanooga Mocs Kicker, Punter & Snapper News

October 12, 2015 - kicker Henrique Ribeiro named SoCon Special Teams Player of Week

"This is the second honor this season for Ribeiro, who is on the Fred Mitchell Award Watch List as one of the top kickers in the nation. Ribeiro turned in a solid all-around performance in the kicking game in UTC's 31-3 win over Furman.  Both of his punts were over 50 yards and both were downed inside the Paladin 20.  He averaged 55 yards per kick, upping his SoCon-leading average to 44.9 yards per punt. A preseason first team All-SoCon pick, Ribeiro connected on his only field-goal attempt of the day from 36 yards out.  He also converted four PAT attempts, extending his school-record streak to 62 in a row.  That is also the seventh-longest streak in league history. Ribeiro kicked off six times, averaging 64.3 yards per kick, and recorded two touchbacks." - Mocs

September 7, 2015 - kicker Henrique Ribeiro named SoCon Special Teams Player of Week
"Ribeiro connected on both field goal attempts in the 23-20 loss to the Gamecocks.  His makes came from 30 and 33 yards to improve to 21-29 in his career.  His 72.4% career accuracy is fourth all-time at UTC. This is the third special teams player of the week honor for Ribeiro in his career.  The preseason first team All-SoCon pick is also on the Fred Mitchell Award Watch List as one of the top kickers in the FCS. Ribeiro also averaged 51.5 yards on two punts, including a career-long 61-yarder.  He made both PATs to extend his streak to 45 in a row, the 10th longest run in SoCon history.  He also handled the kickoffs, averaging 61.0 yards on five attempts." - Mocs

August 2, 2015 - punter replacement
"Last season's starter, Nick Pollard, punted 67 times in 14 games, an average of fewer than five times per contest. His average of 41.7 yards per punt — with 19 punts inside the 20 — helped flip the field at times, but he was a senior and losing him is significant. During the spring, backup quarterback Alejandro Bennifield worked some at punter, but in the spring game, the punting was done by kicker Henrique Ribeiro. The Mocs brought in former Baylor standout Colin Brewer, a Times Free Press Best of Preps first-teamer who averaged 40.7 yards per punt with 21 kicks inside the 20 as a senior in 2014. However, he's more of a straight-ahead punter, and head coach Russ Huesman prefers a rugby-style punt." - Times Free Press

August 16, 2014 - final summer practice
"Highlighted by a field goal contest, the UTC football Mocs held its final pre-season practice Saturday afternoon at Scrappy Moore Field. Cheered on by their teammates, kickers Nick Pollard (for the defense) and Henrique Ribeiro (for the offense) went five rounds with Pollard (4 of 5) edged Ribeiro (3 of 5) on the last kick making the offense run a series of 10 yard sprints. The two veterans matched kick for kick through three rounds all from the 32 yard line, but both missed in the fourth (from 38) including Ribeiro’s potential winning boot which hit the left upright and bounded away. Pollard (Father Ryan grad), who also decided to run with the offense, then split the uprights from 42 yards out, while the Baylor grad’s final kick slide wide right. Asked if he has a No.1 kicker for the season opener against Central Michigan, head coach Russ Huesman said, 'We evaluate every kick and will make a decision on kicking responsibilities as we get closer to the game'.” - Chattanoogan

June 5, 2014 - incoming kicker Tad Whitaker
"Whitaker has had a busy week, the future University of Tennessee at Chattanooga kicker from East Ridge practicing both football and soccer in preparation for Tennessee-Georgia all-star contests today and Saturday. The soccer match is this afternoon, starting at 4:30 at Finley Stadium. The football game kicks off Saturday at 7 p.m. at Boyd-Buchanan. Whitaker practiced football Sunday, Monday and Wednesday and is scheduled for one today, and he had two-a-day soccer practices Tuesday and Thursday. 'Practicing for both is a little tiring, but it's fun at the same time to play two sports at once. I did it with soccer and baseball in high school,' said Whitaker, who'll be a preferred walk-on for the Mocs when they start workouts." - Times Free Press

April 11, 2014 - Blue & Gold Spring Game
"The final points of the day came on what would be a career-long 47-yard FG from senior Nick Pollard.... Pollard had a very good day on special teams.  Not only did he hit a 47-yard field goal, but also his two punts measured 54 and 56 yards.
Punting: Nick Pollard – 54, 56, Henrique Ribeiro – 37, 42, 43
Field Goals: Nick Pollard – Made from 47 yards, Henrique Ribeiro – Made from 21, missed from 52" - Mocs

February 5, 2014 - long snapper Emory Norred signs
"Chattanooga, Tenn. (Baylor School), Four-year starter at Chattanooga’s Baylor School … five-star rating at the Kohl’s Kicking Camp … ranked No. 14 in the nation among the hundreds of  long snappers that attended the camp … lettered in track and wrestling … placed sixth in the state wrestling tournament." - Mocs
