June 19, 2015 - Miller Bolanos & Enner Valencia score in win over Mexico
"Ecuador sent Mexico crashing out of the Copa America while giving themselves at least a slim chance of making the quarter-finals with a 2-1 win. Gustavo Quinteros’ side now need a heavy win from Paraguay against Uruguay, as well as some other results in the other groups, to claim a place in the quarter-finals after what was their best display of the tournament. Miller Bolanos scored the opener for Ecuador, with Enner Valencia doubling his side’s advantage just before the hour mark. Raul Jimenez halved the deficit from the penalty spot soon after, but Mexico couldn’t find an equaliser." - EuroSport

"Joao Plata and Enner Valencia had two goals apiece, and Ecuador beat El Salvador 5-1 on Tuesday night to get a win for Ivan Hurtado in his final appearance with the national team.
The 40-year-old Hurtado left in the 42nd minute to a large ovation from the partisan crowd at Red Bull Arena. The defender is retiring after a team-record 168 appearances.... Plata, who plays for Real Salt Lake, gave Ecuador the lead in the 16th minute when his shot from 25 yards deflected off Salvadoran defender Nestor Renderos and looped over goalkeeper Henry Hernandez. Valencia capitalized on a giveaway by Hernandez 2 1/2 minutes later and then helped set up Plata in the 25th. Rafael Burgos converted a penalty kick in first-half injury time for El Salvador after Juan Carlos Paredes was called for a hand ball. But Valencia restored the three-goal margin in the 73rd, and second-half sub Cristian Penilla finished the scoring in the 83rd." - Star-Telegram

June 20, 2014 - Enner Valencia doubles in win over Honduras
"Ecuador forward Enner Valencia scored twice in a 2-1 comeback victory over Honduras on Friday that kept his team in contention at the World Cup. Ecuador moved into second spot in Group E with a game remaining against group-leading France, which has tallied eight goals and conceded two in a pair of dominating wins. Honduras took the lead in the 31st minute with its first World Cup goal in 32 years when Carlo Costly latched onto a long ball following a misjudgment from Ecuador defender Jorge Guagua.... Valencia equalized three minutes later, tapping in with his left foot from close range after Brayan Beckeles had failed to clear a cross from the right.... The second half was far less frenzied than the opening 45 minutes and Valencia's winner came in the 65th minute when he out-jumped the Honduras defense to head home a left-sided free kick from Walter Ayovi." - Denver Post

June 8, 2014 - Castillo out, Minda in
"Chivas USA midfielder Oswaldo Minda has been officially named to Ecuador's 23-man roster for the World Cup. Originally named one of seven alternates to the squad by Ecuador coach Reinaldo Rueda last month, Minda was not expected to be headed to the World Cup, especially considering he was not part of La Tri's training camp and friendlies ahead of the tournament. But because midfielder Segundo Castillo picked up a knee injury in a collision with Luis Montes in Ecuador's friendly against Mexico last week (one that knocked Montes out of the World Cup as well with a badly broken leg), Rueda called in Minda to replace Castillo." - The Goat Parade
