Georgia State Panthers Kicker, Punter & Snapper News

October 18, 2014 - kicker/punter Wil Lutz
"Lutz started the season as the Panthers’ kicker. He then assumed the punting duties in the wake of Trent Miles’ dissatisfaction with Matt Hubbard’s performance against Washington. 'He’s been very, very consistent,' coach Trent Miles said. Lutz is 5-for-5 in field goals and 21-for-21 in point-after attempts. He has averaged 38.8 yards per punt and rushed one time for 26 yards. Not bad for a guy who didn’t play football until his sophomore year at Northgate High in Newnan. Mostly a soccer player, his older brother talked him into trying out for football as his backup. 'I’d never kicked before that,' Lutz said." - AJC

September 24, 2014 - kicker Wil Lutz will also punt
Place-kicker Wil Lutz will take over at punter in place of Matt Hubbard. Hubbard had a disastrous day at Washington, punting several times to Dante Pettis, a dangerous returner, despite Miles saying that Hubbard was told to punt out of bounds. Hubbard’s punting, combined with an offense that couldn’t generate a first down, resulted in six of the Huskies’ 10 drives in the second half starting in Georgia State territory. Hubbard has averaged 37.4 yards per punt on 16 attempts this season. His average in three previous seasons was 42.3 yards per punt. He has yet to have a punt longer than 50 yards this season, something he did 38 times the previous three seasons." - AJC

August 27, 2014 - Wil Lutz kicks game winner over Abilene Christian
"Wil Lutz kicked a 26-yard field goal with 4 seconds left and Georgia State won for the first time as an FBS member, beating Abilene Christian 38-37 on Wednesday night.... Nick Arbuckle directed the Panthers on a 72-yard drive in the final 2:45. He converted two fourth downs with passes and ran for 30 yards to put Georgia State in position to take the lead with a short kick. Lutz lined it through and, after one last kickoff, the Panthers rushed the field to celebrate. 'Feels like practice,' Lutz said. 'Just another kick'." - Atlanta Journal-Constitution

July 1, 2014 - long snapper Justin Forrister
Georgia State will have to replace a vital starter in 2014 as veteran Scott McQueen has graduated. Scottie Mac made appearances in 43 games during his career and handled snapping duties in both the punting and kicking game. Forrister joined the program as a walk on and took a redshirt in 2012 and came in with a strong reputation at his position.... What to expect this season: Forrister will be a guy that very few be lining up for autographs when Fan Day rolls around but his role in the 2014 season is going to be crucial in what could be an excellent special teams season with both Matt Hubbard and Will Lutz competing for All-Conference honors as punter and kicker, respectively." - 247 Sports

June 3, 2014 - returning specialists
Former walk-on punter Matt Hubbard had no problem making the transition from FCS last season, earning third team All-Sun Belt honors after averaging 42.0 yards on 78 punts. Placekicker Wil Lutz also returns after making 8-of-12 field goals last season, including a 53-yarder against Alabama." - Athlon Sports
