Hawaii Rainbow Warriors Kicker, Punter & Snapper News

July 12, 2015 - kicker Rigoberto Sanchez
"Rigoberto Sanchez hasn't played a full season of football since his second year of junior college in 2013, but after spending one year focusing on his studies and perfecting his craft, Sanchez will be heading to University of Hawaii on a full-ride scholarship this fall as a kicker.... Three years ago, Sanchez converted a 57-yard field goal at Hamilton High. He also nailed a 54-yarder at Butte College." - Action News Now

March 10, 2015 - spring kickers
"Tyler Hadden’s graduation opens the kicking competition this spring. Kainoa McDonald, a 2014 Punahou graduate, redshirted last last season. But two familiar kickers — Joe Uglietto and Aaron Novoa — are expected to be in spring training. Uglietto, who was raised in Massachusetts, was Colgate’s starting kicker in 2011. He then transferred to UH, and redshirted in 2012. In 2013, he was a backup to Hadden, making one road trip. He did not play football last year. Novoa played at Sacramento City College before transferring to UH. He participated in last year’s spring ball, but was not invited to training camp. He’s back with the Warriors this semester." - Hawaii Warrior World

February 2, 2015 - punter Alexander Trifonovitch commits
"When multi-skilled Scott Harding completed his University of Hawaii football career last semester, he left a void at three positions. One of those spots was filled on Sunday when Punahou School punter Alexander Trifonovitch accepted an offer from the Rainbow Warriors." - Star Advertiser

September 20, 2014 - specialists busy in loss to Colorado
"Warrior kicker Tyler Hadden had a career day against the Buffaloes, kicking four for four on field goal attempts to score all 12 points for his team. Hadden came up one field goal shy of the all-time UH record for most field goals in a game set by former kicker Reinhold Stuprich against Brigham Young on Sept. 14, 1974. Fresh off his Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Week award last week, UH punter Scott Harding had another successful day on special teams, punting nine times on Saturday including five punts that landed inside the opponents’ 20-yard line. Harding has now punted the ball a total of 34 times through four games this season for the Rainbow Warriors; an average of 8.5 times a game. If Harding continues at this rate, he will set the all-time record for UH in punts attempted in a season (102) and for average punts per game (8.5)." - Ka Leo

July 16, 2014 - kicker Ryan Weese transfers
"Former Oklahoma State kicker Ryan Weese is transferring to  UH and is expected to participate in training camp next month. Weese received preliminary approval, although his admittance has not been finalized. If approved, he would be a sophomore this year, eligible to compete this season, and have three years to play three seasons. This past spring, Weese joined OSU as a walk-on after transferring from Hutchinson Community College. A player usually has to redshirt a season after transferring between FBS schools. Weese qualifies for an exemption because he was an unrecruited walk-on at OSU and initiated contact with the Warriors. Weese said he has known Chris "Demo" Demarest, UH's special teams coordinator, for several years." - Star Advertiser

July 7, 2014 - punter Paul Harding named to Paul Hornung watch list
"For the second consecutive year, University of Hawai'i multi-purpose player Scott Harding was named to the Paul Hornung Award Watch List, presented by Texas Roadhouse. Now in its fifth season, the award is given annually to the most versatile player in major college football by the Louisville Sports Commission and football legend and Louisville native Paul Hornung.... Last season, Harding started at three different positions - wide receiver, punter, and punt returner - for the Rainbow Warriors and was selected at the team's Most Valuable Player. Last month, the Brisbane, Australia native was selected to Phil Steele's preseason all-Mountain West team at all three positions - second team punter, fourth team wide receiver, and fourth team punt returner." - Hawaii News Now

June 3, 2014 - returning specialists
"In his addition to his duties as a wide receiver, Scott Harding is a valuable special teams contributor. The former Australian Rules rugby pro punted and returned punts last season, and for a time he was also a holder on placements. As an ambidextrous rugby-style kicker, his roll-outs kept foes off balance, resulting in three fumbles and helping UH rank 25th nationally in net punting. Placekicker Tyler Hadden converted only 7-of-13 attempts last season, including 2-of-3 from beyond 40 yards." - Athlon
