Erick Andino struck for the first goal in the 53rd minute, placing a superb right-footed shot from 23-yards out off the outstretched fingertips of goalkeeper Alain Baroja and into the net.  Shortly after entering the field as a substitute, striker Rubilio Castillo made it 2-0 with a header.  With five minutes left in normal time, Emilio Izaguirre converted a penalty kick after Andino was fouled in the box." - CONCACAF

July 10, 2015 - Andy Najar scores dramatic equalizer in draw with Panama
"Andy Najar scored a dramatic equalizer as Honduras rallied for a 1-1 draw with Panama in the first game of a CONCACAF Gold Cup Group A doubleheader at Gillette Stadium on Friday.... Luis Tejada gave the Panamanians a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute with his first Gold Cup goal since scoring against El Salvador on June 19, 2011. The sequence started with a clever short free kick by Gabriel Gomez to Armando Cooper, whose cross from the left side of the 18-yard box deflected off Honduran defender Henry Figueroa. Goalkeeper Donis Escobar desperately swatted at the ball, but it went directly to Tejada’s chest and over the line. Honduras leveled in the 81st minute on a goal by Najar after Salvadoran referee Marlon Mejia ruled Armando Cooper fouled the Anderlecht midfielder in the box. After receiving some advice from Jorge Claros, Najar's penalty attempt was saved by goalkeeper Jaime Penedo, who dived to his right. The ball rebounded off the crossbar and back to Najar for what amounted to a tap-in." - CONCACAF

Najar led the way for Los Carachos, who were topped 2-1 in the opening leg in French Guiana. The former D.C. September 30, 2014 - roster named for friendlies
"Honduras head coach Hernan Medford announced Tuesday his roster for away friendlies against Mexico and the United States on October 9 (Tuxtla Gutierrez) and October 14 (Boca Raton, Florida), respectively. Of the 21 players selected, 10 were part of the squad that finished fifth in the Central American Cup (CCA) earlier this month.  That placement secured the Catrachos a playoff meeting with the team that ultimately finishes fifth in November’s Caribbean Cup for a berth in the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup. The matches will mark the return of key performers Maynor Figueroa (Hull City/England) and Victor Bernardez (San Jose Earthquakes/USA).  Neither veteran participated in the CCA, indicating after the World Cup that they would assess their national team futures....A surprise invitation was extended to young Olimpia forward Alberth Elis.  The rising star, who played in four games in the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup, has netted once in this season’s CONCACAF Champions League and also scored a goal against Panama in Central American qualifying for the 2015 CONCACAF Under-20 Championship." - CONCACAF

"Honduras posted a 1-0 win over Nicaragua on Saturday in the 2014 Central American Cup’s (CCA) match for fifth place, keeping alive its hopes of qualifying for the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Antony Lozano’s header just before halftime was enough to earn the 2014 FIFA World Cup participant a playoff against the fifth-place finisher from November’s Caribbean Cup finals for the last berth in the Confederation’s biennial showpiece event.... Lozano, though, made amends ten minutes later.  Carlos Will Mejia sent yet another right-sided cross in the direction of Rodriguez.  The midfielder played a delightful short pass in the air for Lozano to head past Lorente for the game’s only goal." - CONCACAF

Only three minutes later, Belize was stung by another inadvertent miscue.  From the right side of the box, Wilfredo Barahona tried to guide a pass towards the far post.  In a sliding attempt to make a block, Elroy Smith pushed the ball past West into his own net." - CONCACAF
