June 8, 2015 - long snapper Christian Samarzich commits
"Congrats to Fullerton JC Long Snapper Christian Samarzich @theonlycsam for committing to Fresno State University!" - Matt Wigley long Snapping

February 4, 2015 - kicker Jimmy Camacho signs
"Garnered 2014 first-team All-America accolades by the California Community College Football Coaches Association and was a first-team SCFA Central League selection as a freshman kicker at Riverside Community College ... made 21-of-26 field goal attempts in 2014 and connected on all 46 of his point after attempts ... his 109 points led the team as he hleped RCC to the CCCAA Southern California Regional final game ... was 3-of-4 on field goal attempts of over 50 yards, with a long of 53 that is the fourth longest made field goal in RCC history ... was 15-of-16 on field goal attempts of under 40 yards, his lone miss in that range being a 39-yarder." - Bulldogs

February 2, 2015 - kicker/punter Blake Cusick commits
"High school: Monrovia, Height/Weight: 6-1, 175 lbs., Of note: There’s no part of the kicking game that Cusick doesn’t excel at. He had a 53-yard long on field goals in 2014 and a 62-yard long at punting." - Pasadena Star-News

September 29, 2014 - no backup kicker found in tryouts
"There were no additions to the Fresno State roster on Sunday, which means the open tryout to find a kicker among the full-time students on campus didn't yield the hoped for results. It did not go well. Fresno State had 23 applicants, and none made it through the kicking portion of the tryouts. 'I think the longest field goal that was made was like 18 yards,' Coach Tim DeRuyter said. The Bulldogs were looking for depth behind freshman Kody Kroening more than anything -- he is the only placekicker in the program since Colin McGuire withdrew from school to return home to Texas to deal with some personal issues, and Garrett Swanson is the only punter. Now, they just have to stay heathy. 'That was our concern, not so much that somebody was going to beat Kody out as much as just to have a backup,' DeRuyter said. 'Practice leg-wise, we have machines so if he starts to get tired that way we have other alternatives and (freshman tight end) Chad Olsen punts, so we have alternatives. It's just the place kicker, if Kody were to get hurt'." - Fresno Bee

September 16, 2014 - kicker tryouts
"The Bulldog football team will be holding open tryouts for full-time Fresno State students to be a kicker on the Bulldog football team. Interested students with past kicking experience are asked to attend a meeting with the coaching staff this Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Josephine Theater of the Duncan Building. Attendees must bring proof that they are a full-time student at Fresno State and film of their past kicking experiences." - Bulldogs

September 2, 2014 - kicker Colin McGuire leaves team
Fresno State kicker Colin McGuire, who made some big field goals last season for the Bulldogs in winning a second consecutive Mountain West Conference championship, has left the team to return home to Texas and deal with some personal issues with his family. McGuire was with the Bulldogs on Saturday when they lost at USC, hitting one of two point-after touchdown attempts.... With McGuire out, the Bulldogs will have freshman walk-on Kody Kroening handle PATs and field goals with punter Garrett Swanson as the backup. Swanson already handles kickoff duties for the Bulldogs and against the Trojans had three well-placed kicks that spurred a vast improvement in kickoff coverage.... 'Right now Garrett and Kody will take over the things that Colin was doing,' coach Tim DeRuyter said. 'Kody will be our starting PAT and field-goal guy, Garrett will be our second field-goal guy and if we have a longer one we may go with Garrett'." - Fresno Bee

August 19, 2014 - punter Garrett Swanson & kicker Colin McGuire
"Already recognized as a special team’s ace this preseason was junior punter Garrett Swanson. On July 22, Swanson was voted the Mountain West all-preseason team punter. 'Garrett has picked up where he left off,' special teams coach Pete Germano said. 'He’s booming the ball for the most part and done a great job kicking off. Our snapping situation is really good with Dylan Detwiler, and Kody Kroening is a dual guy that can punt and kick." Also added to the arsenal this week was place kicker, Collin McGuire, after missing the first two weeks of practice. As a true freshman he connected for 11-of-16 field goals, with a long of 47 yards, and hit 71-of-74 PAT attempts. 'Obviously having Colin back, that’s an awesome feeling,' said Germano. 'When you’re with him kicking, there’s a certain sound that comes off his leg, that pop, that you don’t hear with the other guys sometimes. He’s got a strong leg, it’s fresh, and the ball is coming off it well'.” - Valley Bay News

June 12, 2014 - summer specialists
"The Bulldogs didn't usually have any great need to punt, but when they did they had a good man for the job in Garrett Swanson. The sophomore grossed 43.2 on 52 punts, dropping 14 inside the 20 with just 3 touchbacks. Swanson forced 26 fair catches and had only 9 punts returned for a meager 27 yards. Freshman kicker Colin McGuire was inconsistent in his first season. He hit 11 of 16 field goals, including 2 blocks, but he missed some he should have made.... Swanson and McGuire return this season, offering a bit of continuity at both positions. Swanson should make a push for the all-conference team this season, while McGuire needs to improve, but he was only a freshman in 2013." - Fullback Counter

April 5, 2014 - spring game
"The kickers had an off day. By my count, Colin McGuire and Garrett Swanson combined to miss four kicks this morning.  The attempts shouldn't have been particularly challenging, as they were all from around 40 yards with no wind.  McGuire missed two from the left hashmark, one left and one right, and while this may have been an aberration (most of McGuire's misses in 2013 were actually blocked kicks) it is a potential Achilles heel if it doesn't get straightened out." - Mountain West Connection
