Furman Paladins Kicker, Punter & Snapper News

September 26, 2015 - Jon Croft Hollingsworth kicks game winner over VMI
"While it didn’t exactly have the same kind of luster as last week, Furman kicker Jon Croft Hollingsworth once again came through when the Paladins needed him late Saturday. Hollingworth kicked a 42-yard field goal with 4:35 to lift Furman to a 24-21 win over VMI in the Southern Conference opener for both teams.... Hollingsworth rebounded with a pair of punts that pinned VMI deep in their own territory. One forced the Keydets to start from their two-yard line and the other from the six-yard line. The second led to Furman’s final touchdown. 'I hit one really bad so I’m glad I made up for it,' Hollingsworth said." - Greenville Online

"Former Greenwood High standout kicker Jon Croft Hollingsworth is the SoCon's special teams player of the week. Hollingsworth nailed a school-record 55-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter, which turned out to be the game-winning score. Hollingsworth also punted nine times and placed three inside the UCF 20-yard line. September 19, 2015 - Jon Croft Hollingsworth kicks 55-yard game winner over UCF
"The Furman defense clamped down on the Knights offense over the final three quarters, forcing four turnovers. That kept the contest close until sophomore kicker Jon Croft Hollingsworth nailed a 55-yard field goal with little more than 12 minutes left in the game, the deciding points in a 16-15 Paladins victory.... Hollingsworth did something as well. While the Hannon-to-Suttles pass allowed the Paladins to grab the lead, a 29-yard field goal gave UCF (0-3) a 15-13 edge near the end of the third quarter. So, with Furman facing a fourth down at the Knights 38, the coaches were discussing whether to attempt the field goal or punt. Hollingsworth spoke up, saying that he would not leave the kick short. He was right, drilling a personal-best and stadium-record kick. 'I was very confident,' Hollingsworth said. 'I was hitting them very well in warmups, maybe missed one or two kicks. I knew it was good as soon as I hit it. That’s what you live for, growing up kicking. You get maybe one or two of those a career. That’s a memory you want'." - Greenville Online

April 3, 2015 - kicker/punter Joey Gogol signs
"Gogol has signed National Letter of Intent and will join the freshman class this fall.... Gogol was a three-year starter at Marist (Ga.) School, where he converted 31 of 42 field goal attempts, including a career long 53-yarder, and was a two-time all-state selection.  As a senior he booted a school record 16 field goals in 20 attempts, was credited with 52 touchbacks on kickoffs, and averaged 35.1 yards on 21 punts on the way to reaping first team all-metro and all-state accolades. He garnered MVP honors after kicking the game winning field goal in Marist's 17-14 victory over Godby (Fla.) High School in last fall's Georgia-Florida Border War game and was recognized by both Chris Sailer Kicking and Kohl's Kicking as an All-American." - Paladins

August 28, 2014 - Jon Croft Hollingsworth to handle all kicking roles
"Furman's Jon Croft Hollingsworth has won the job of trying to fill the big shoes of former All-American kicker and All-Southern Conference punter Ray Early. Coach Bruce Fowler confirmed Wednesday that the freshman from Greenwood will handle kickoff, place kicking and punting duties when the 18th-ranked Paladins open the season Saturday at home against Gardner-Webb. 'With a true freshman there, there's question marks until you get into a competitive atmosphere, but it's got a chance to be a strength for us,' said Fowler. 'The kicking game for us is going to be critical.' Fowler's confidence in the special teams is boosted by how much better he feels the competition made all of his kickers and punters. He praised the improvement made by former Christ Church standout Hunter Townes at kicker and Andy McMillan at punter from spring practice to now. 'We've got depth there now. It's not just one guy,' said Fowler. 'Coach (Antonio) Goss and the special teams units have worked extremely hard and we've made great strides with the individual specialists'." - Greenville Online

April 5, 2014 - kicking competition
"Former Christ Church quarterback Hunter Townes is competing with Andy McMillan for kicking duties this spring. In the fall, they will be joined by 2014 signee Jon Croft Hollingsworth of Greenwood. 'They’ve worked extremely hard at it this spring,” Fowler said. “We’ve just got to be more consistent. Obviously, it’s a pretty measurable skill. You either make the field goal or you don’t and with the distance traveled (in kicks and punts) you can see the progress'.” - Greenville Online

February 5, 2014 - kicker/punter Jon Hollingsworth signs
"The most important signee for Furman might have been Jon Hollingsworth, who will look to fill the shoes of potential NFL prospect and All-SoCon kicker Ray Early, who had four field goals of 50 or more yards in his career. Hollingsworth was instrumental in Greenwood High School’s success over the past three years, helping the program to a 36-6 record as the placekicker and punter. During his prep career, connected on 9-of-12 kicks, including going 7-for-10 as a senior. He was a two-time All-Lakelands selection as a punter and is poised to compete to step into both roles this fall." - Saturday Blitz
