Pennsylvania Quakers Kicker, Punter & Snapper News

October 11, 2014 - Jimmy Gammill kicks record five field goals
"Junior Jimmy Gammill set a single-game school record with five field goals, but the University of Pennsylvania football team was unable to stop one of the nation's top offenses on the road and fell to No. 14/18 Fordham, 60-22, on Saturday afternoon at Coffey Field. Gammill also tied the school kicking record with 16 points. He connected on all five of his field goal attempts with makes from 29, 32, 27, 48 and 35 yards -- his 48-yarder was the longest for a Penn player since 2004 -- and started the day with an extra point." - Penn Athletics

September 30, 2014 - freshmen punter & snapper
"One of the youngest teams in Coach Bagnoli’s tenure is evidenced by several freshmen who have logged significant playing time and made an immediate impact for the Quakers. Punter Hunter Kelley was the Ivy League Rookie of the Week following the season opener at Jacksonville and ranks second in the Ivies with 41.2 yards per punt.... long snapper Zach O’Leary has snapped for Kelley and junior placekicker Jimmy Gammill, who remains perfect in his first season as kicker (5-for-5 PATs, 1-for-1 FG)." - Penn Athletics

September 10, 2014 - punting competition still fluid
"Bagnoli did not have an update on the punter situation as two freshmen — Hunter Kelley and Brock Elmore — were still firmly entrenched in a battle for the spot. 'We’ll probably make a decision early next week,' coach Al Bagnoli said. 'We’ve tried to put as much stress as we could [on them]. We had two intersquad scrimmages with officials and we did an in-depth kicking segment in both. They’ve both acquitted themselves pretty well. And even once we decide for the first week, the situation will be pretty fluid and could change in week two, week three, week four — they’re that close together'.” - The Daily Pennsylvanian

August 27, 2014 - kicking & punting competitions
"The Quakers are going into the final weeks before their season starts with battles still going on for the kicker and punter positions. Senior Connor Loftus , junior Jimmy Gammill and sophomore Aron Morgan are all working to earn the job as placekicker while two freshmen — Hunter Kelley and Brock Elmore try to secure the starting job at punter. The placekicker competition features two more experienced athletes in Loftus and Gammill. Loftus has been the Quakers’ starting kicker during his first three seasons at Penn, while Gammill handled kickoffs early in the 2013 season before going down with an injury, missing all but two games.... Now the two are battling with Morgan for a placekicking spot that coach Al Bagnoli said was 'wide open.' Morgan missed his only field goal attempt last year, while Loftus struggled by going just 4-for-12 on his kicks.... The other battle pits two newcomers against each other with Kelley and Elmore. Last season, punting duties were handled by a tandem of underclassmen, with then-sophomore Max Kurucar, now a member of the DP’s marketing staff, taking most punts and then-freshman Donald Panciello occasionally kicking the ball away. Kurucar has since left the program, while Panciello is projected to start at linebacker in his second season (he also played some linebacker last year). Unlike Panciello, Elmore and Kelley were recruited to play special teams, earning high praise from Bagnoli on media day, who compared the two players to former Penn punter Scott Lopano . Lopano stood out at punter, finishing as Penn’s all-time leader in career punts and punt yardage while earning first-team All-Ivy honors in 2012.... The one special teams spot that is settled is long snapper. After Spencer Kulcsar , one of the Quakers’ senior wide receivers, handled long snapping duties last season, the coaching staff recruited freshman Zach O’Leary to take over at the spot." - The Daily Pennsylvanian
