Emporia State Hornets Kicker, Punter & Snapper News

September 29, 2015 - kicker Austin Morton named MIAA Special Teams Player of the Week
"Morton finished Saturday’s win going 7-for-7 on PATs, improving his season total to a perfect 22-for-22. He also converted two field goals that included a season-long 39-yard make. For the season, Morton is 5-for-5 on field goals to hold the best make percentage in the MIAA for kickers with at least five attempts. The sophomore also ranks fourth in scoring in the conference and second among kickers, behind only Northwest Missouri State’s Simon Mathiesen." - Emporia Gazette

"The kicking game is more set in stone, with ESU’s core three players — Justin Marcha at punter and kicker for kickoffs, Austin Morton for field goals and PATs, and Reid Buckingham at long snapper — all having a year of starting experience under their belts.... On 46 punts last season, Marcha’s average came out to 36.7 yards per kick, including 15 inside the opponents’ 20-yard line.... Backup quarterback Ty Reasnor stepped in at times to punt the ball, accumulating nearly a 38-yard average. While Marcha will, by all accounts, be the Hornets’ starting punter, Linsey wasn’t overly secretive about implementing a few wild cards to keep opponents honest.... ESU’s field goal game still showed room for improvement, but was fairly consistent in Morton’s freshman campaign. Morton converted 10 of 13 field goal attempts to rank fifth in the MIAA. His average didn’t dip significantly at longer ranges, as he nailed 5 of 6 from 30-39 yards and 2 of 3 from 40-49." - Emporia Gazette

August 20, 2014 - summer specialists
"The kicking duties will be handed over to a new player this year after the Hornets lost school record holder Eli Kuhns to a career ending injury during the playoffs last year.  Look for red-shirt freshman Austin Morton and true freshman Justin Marcha to split the kicking duties to begin the season. Kuhns also handled most of the punting chores last season. Marcha and back-up quarterback Ty Reasnor are in the mix at punter this year. Running back Jordan Tice took over in the playoff game after Kuhn's injury and punted six times with an average of 31.8 yards per punt in the extremely cold weather.... True freshman Reid Buckingham looks to take over the long snapping duties from four year starter Jake Farley.  Buckingham was the 17th ranked long snapper in the country last year and the only player in the top 30 not going to an NCAA Division I school." - Hornets
