August 30, 2014 - punter Colby Blanton vs. Jackson State
"FAMU's defense couldn't have asked for more from punter Colby Blanton in its game against Jackson State on Saturday at Veterans Stadium. Blanton booted a 78-yard punt in the first quarter to pin the Tigers on their 2-yard line to start their fourth possession of the first quarter. The defense made it the first three-and-out for the Tigers. FAMU scored on the ensuring possession, tying the game 3-3. The Rattlers eventually lost 22-17 on a Hail Mary pass with no time on the clock. Blanton finished the game averaging 51.2 yards per punt, with the 78-yarder being his only one inside the 20. It was the second time that Blanton booted a punt longer than 70 yards. He also had a 78-yarder last year against Ohio State last season. 'I try to give my defense everything I can and I appreciate everything my specialists do for me,' Blanton said. 'But field position is my biggest concern'." -  Tallahassee Democrat

August 4, 2014 - kicker Corey Irwin
All the training Irwin put in, combined with solid junior and senior seasons at BHS, netted him an opportunity to become a preferred walk-on at Florida A&M this fall. Irwin was recruited by Dunnellon High School legend Ernie Mills, who went on to play nine seasons in the NFL. The relationship Irwin built with Mills was key to him choosing a walk-on spot at FAMU over some scholarship offers he had from the likes of Charleston Southern, Carson-Newman College and Fort Hays State University, amongst others.... The Rattlers are a Division I FCS program, competing in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. Their senior kicker, Chase Varnadore, seems to have placekicking duties wrapped up after being named to the preseason second-team all-conference and the 2014 College Football Performance Award Watch List. But that suits Irwin just fine to begin his college career. 'I was hoping maybe to redshirt and start kicking the following season,' he said, 'but we will see. They want to wait and see how good I am at kickoffs (before making a decision)'." - Ocala Star Banner
