Missouri S&T Miners Kicker, Punter & Snapper News

August 6, 2015 - summer specialists
"S&T also returns its placekicker from a season ago in Nolan Mannino (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo), who converted 19-of-25 extra points and four of his nine field goal attempts. He will get competition for that role from incoming freshman Taylor Middlebrooks (Springfield, Mo./Parkview), an all-state kicker from Springfield's Parkview High School who had a 50-yard field goal last season and recorded 46 touchbacks on kickoffs. Middlebrooks also averaged 33 yards as a punter and will compete with Mannino for that spot this fall.... One position on the special teams that needs to be filled is that of the long snapper, a role held for the last four years by Jon Vance. Returning veteran Evan Merz (O'Fallon, Mo./St. Dominic) will be a top competitor for that role along with two members of the incoming freshman class, Brandon Takjarimi and Caleb Howard (Chesterfield, Mo./Marquette)." - Rolla Daily News

"Adam Peden (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington)'s graduation has left an opening for the placekicker role, while the Miners will have a pair of incumbents, so to speak, competing to handle the punting duties. Peden connected on all but one of his extra point attempts throughout his career and made 11-of-17 on field goal tries a year ago, leaving a big hole to fill.  Among the top candidates to take over the spot are redshirt freshman Lucas Hoemann (Washington, Mo./Washington), along with incoming freshmen Nolan Mannino (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) and Michael Tschin. 'Lucas is an accurate kicker who did some good things in spring ball,' said head coach Tyler Fenwick. 'Nolan has a very strong leg and can also punt, so we're anxious to see what he can do. Michael is another kicker with good distance and accuracy that is coming in. We're going to have some competition and we'll have to get them a bunch of reps to see who the best one is.'
The Miner punters from each of the last two seasons – Cole Wassner (Quartz Hill, Calif./Quartz Hill) and Austin Dussold (Farmington, Mo./Farmington) – will compete for that role. Dussold averaged 37.1 yards per punt during his freshman season in 2013 and dropped 14 punts inside the opponents' 20-yard line.  Wassner, the Miner punter in 2012, averaged 33.3 yards a kick during that season but forced returners into fair catches on nearly one-third of his kicks. 'Both of them kicked the ball very well in the spring,' Fenwick said. 'Cole showed a lot more distance than I remember him having from the previous spring, which tells me he has gotten stronger. Austin is a technician who works hard at punting and he gained a ton of experience as a true freshman last year. His numbers were pretty good and I think we'll have a pretty good competition with those two in fall camp.' Jon Vance (Marshalltown, Iowa/Marshalltown) and Geoff Correnti (Bowling Green, Mo./Bowling Green), a pair of experienced hands at the task, are expected to handle the long snapping duties for the kicking game." - Rolla Daily News
