Towson Tigers Kicker, Punter & Snapper News

April 18, 2015 - Tiger Bowl V
"Senior kicker Sam Hurwitz made a 38-yard field goal in the third quarter to give the White Team a 9-7 lead, but redshirt freshman kicker Danny Sutton connected on a 37-yard field goal for the final points of the game to give the Black Team a 10-9 victory." - WNST

September 28, 2014 - kicker Sam Hurwitz
Like many of his teammates in Towson’s 27-24 stunning loss to Maine in the Colonial Athletic Association opener for both teams Saturday night, Sam Hurwitz had an unsteady performance. The junior kicker converted all three of his extra-point attempts and easily nailed a 25-yard field goal in the first quarter. But he also had a 45-yard try that went outside the right upright in the fourth quarter that preceded the Black Bears’ eventual game-winning touchdown. Hurwitz, who has connected on four of six field goals this season, converted a career-long 39-yard field goal in the Tigers’ 31-20 victory over North Carolina Central on Sept. 20. But coach Rob Ambrose said he had no regrets about sending Hurwitz out rather than going for the first down on fourth-and-5 from Maine’s 28.... 'We were having issues with [kickoff] placement,' Ambrose said. 'So we decided we were just going to squib it, and there has been a conversation between me and the young man that should he get lucky enough to hit one of those guys on the run, it would be beneficial to the team. Sam didn’t kick well. He didn’t kick well. Missed a field goal. Placement on kickoffs was bad. [Sophomore punter Jake] Ryder didn’t kick well. Gave them short fields'.... Despite Hurwitz’s uneven outing, Ambrose said there would be no serious consideration to allow freshman Danny Sutton to kick in Hurwitz’s place." - Baltimore Sun
