Villanova Wildcats Kicker, Punter & Snapper News

August 27, 2015 - summer specialists

"With Chris Gough gone (he landed on the team at Rutgers, it seems), Steve Weyler is the most experienced placekicker on the roster. He came to Villanova on a scholarship, so expect the staff to give him every chance to earn it this season. If he struggles, however, the program did add two freshmen at the kicker/punter positions. Elia Palmese joins the program as an All-Conference, All-County selection at Rancocas Valley high school in New Jersey who made a long field goal of 43-yards in high school. Gerard Smith also joins the team out of Garden City High School in New York after ranking top-five all-time in points scored for his high school career. After serving as the team's punter in all 14 games last year, John Hinchen will come back this Fall to try and hit the coffin-corner again. He had 53 punts in 2014, for an average of 39.4 yards per punt, booting seven of them over 50 yards, and downing 14 inside the opponent's 20-yard line." - VU Hoops

August 14, 2014 - summer specialists
"Villanova will have to replace two thirds of its kicking game in 2014. Mark Hamilton, who was the team's kicker and punter the last three seasons, has graduated. Hamilton was an extremely reliable performer for the Wildcats. As the team's punter he earned third team All-CAA accolades last season after averaging 41.7 yards per punt and placing 14 punts inside the 20-yard line. During his career as the team's place kicker, Hamilton was 33-of-42 in field goals and a 130-of-133 in extra points. The Wildcats do return their kickoff specialist in senior Chris Gough (Winslow, N.J.) who averaged 60.5 yards per kickoff last season and had 17 touchbacks. Gough will also compete with sophomore John Hinchen (Saddle River, N.J.) and freshman Preston Seiler (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) to handle the punting duties this season. Hinchen and Seiler both possess a strong leg and have the ability to get good hang time on their punts. Gough will also be in the mix for the place kicking job. His main competition will come from incoming freshman Steve Weyler (Media, Pa.) who had a very successful high school career at nearby Cardinal O'Hara High School." - Wildcats

February 5, 2014 - kicker/punter Steve Weyler signs
"Steve Weyler, a 5'11" 170 pound kicker from Cardinal O'Hara High School and Springfield, PA, signed a National Letter of Intent with the Villanova Wildcats football program today, the school announced. Weyler handled both kicking and punting duties in high school, and will likely have the opportunity to do both at Villanova. Steve Weyler committed to Villanova in late-June, becoming the third verbal commitment of the 2014 class. Weyler was getting FBS looks from Stanford and Miami (FL) among others, but decided to commit to Villanova early because they offered him a full scholarship." - VU Hoops
