Cyprus Men's National Soccer Team News

June12, 2015 - Nestoras Mitidis scores hat-trick in win over Andorra
"Cyprus had to come from behind to avoid a shock defeat at the hands of Andorra this evening, beating them 3-1 in Euro 2016 qualifying. Andorra took a shock lead within the opening two minutes when Dossa Junior directed the ball into his own net. The lead did not last for long though when Nestoras Mitidis directed the ball into the bottom left corner of the net.... Cyprus began to dominate towards the end of the first half, and Mitidis added his second in stoppage time, heading in from close range after Georgios Efrem's corner.... Mitidis completed his hat trick in the 52nd minute, scoring from close range to put the game beyond the reach of Andorra." - Sports Mole

November 16, 2014 - Giorgios Efrem scores hat-trick in win over Andorra
"Giorgios Efrem made history by scoring a hat-trick as Cyprus got their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign back on track with a 5-0 triumph over Andorra on Sunday. Giorgios Merkis put the Cypriots on their way in the ninth minute with his first international goal before Efrem doubled the lead on the half-hour mark. The APOEL midfielder scored his second before the interval and made it 4-0 in the second half to become the first player to score three goals in a single game for his country. Dimitris Christofi completed the rout three minutes from time when he converted a penalty. Andorra, in contrast to their dominant hosts, had no shots on target and failed to test Cyprus goalkeeper Antonis Georgallides in a one-sided clash at GSP stadium in Nicosia." - ESPN

September 9, 2014 - Dimitris Cristofi scores brace in upset win over Bosnia-Herzegovina
"Striker Dimitris Cristofi scored twice against the run of play to give unfancied Cyprus a smash-and-grab 2-1 win over Bosnia-Herzegovina, who missed a late penalty in their Euro 2016 Group B qualifier on Tuesday. Bosnia seemed to be cruising after a Vedad Ibisevic header gave them an early lead, as the home team dominated and spurned several chances in front of a passionate home crowd in Zenica. Those near misses cost Bosnia dearly as Cristofi beat the home team's keeper Asmir Begovic when he headed home an inviting cross from the left on the stroke of halftime. Roared on by their fans, Bosnia laid siege to the Cyprus defence after the break but were again caught out at the other end, as Cristofi raced clear of Ermin Bicakcic and beat the advancing Begovic with a cool finish." - Yahoo
