New Mexico Highlands Cowboys Kicker, Punter & Snapper News

October 18, 2014 - Zach Tapia kicks game winner over Western State
"It was a day of big kicks with the Cowboys making the last one that counts. Senior Zach Tapia kicked a 46-yard field goal as time expired to give New Mexico Highlands (3-4, 3-2 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) a 46-43 win Saturday afternoon (Oct. 18) in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Meanwhile at halftime, senior Patrick Carney's brother, Charlie Carney, won the JC's New York Pizza Department Challenge at halftime to win $10,000 dollars. He had to start at the back of the endzone and pass the ball. He punted from where that ball landed and kicked a field goal from the spot where the ball landed. Despite a wobbly kick at an angle, Charlie split the uprights for the prize. Who knew Patrick Carney holding for his brother was just an audition for later? Patrick was also the holder for Tapia's game-winning kick and all of his field goals – including three 45 yards or longer." - Cowboys

September 18, 2014 - punter/kicker Patrick Carney
"This season, senior Patrick Carney was named a Preseason All-American as a punter, as he is the leading returning punter in all of NCAA Division II. In 2014 so far, Carney has placed 50 percent of his punts inside the 20 (nine of 18). With three punts more than 50 yards Saturday at Northern Arizona, Carney has punted for 50+ yards in 36 of 128 career punts (28.1 percent). Carney's average of 45.1 yards per game is currently eighth in the nation and first in the RMAC. Despite 33 percent (six of 18) of his punts being more than 50 yards, he has only two touchbacks in 2014. Oh, and he made a 33 yard field goal against Northern Arizona." - Cowboys
