"Slovakia marched on in UEFA EURO 2016 qualifying Group C as three first-half goals helped the hosts overpower Luxembourg in Zilina and make it five wins from five.... Adam Nemec, Vladimír Weiss and Peter Pekarík all found the target in the opening period to extend the Slovaks' perfect record and leave the visitors stuck at the foot of the section. Nemec, the man who scored Slovakia's second in Skopje, made the breakthrough this time on ten minutes, firing in after Ján Ďurica's rasping shot was repelled. The lead was doubled ten minutes later as Weiss collected a looping ball over the defence, beat his marker and slid low past Jonathan Joubert.... The Zilina supporters urged Kozák's charges on and Pekarík provided more joy five minutes before the interval. A mazy run ended as he exchanged passes with Tomáš Hubočan before a neat finish inside Joubert's near post." - UEFA

The visitors looked more convincing after taking the lead, and they helped themselves to a second seven minutes before the interval when Adam Nemec thumped home from inside the penalty area." - Sports Mole

October 12, 2014 - Marek Hamsik scores brace in win over Belarus
"Captain Marek Hamsik scored two goals as Slovakia registered their second win in four days with a 3-1 Euro 2016 qualifying victory over Belarus at the Borisov Arena.... After an uninspiring first half, Hamsik broke the deadlock 20 minutes after the break before Timofey Kalachev struck back for the home side, but Hamsik's second and a late third from Stanislav Sestak sealed the victory.... Slovakia were rewarded when they took the lead after 65 minutes, however, as Napoli midfielder Hamsik collected Weiss' cross from the edge of the area and tapped home. The goal sparked the home side into life and they began to search for an equaliser, which arrived with 10 minutes from time. Stanislav Dragun picked out Kalachev, who powered the ball home from six yards. But the visitors were not done yet. Skipper Hamsik netted his second goal when he capitalised on Miroslav Stoch's rebound off the post with five minutes to go, and Sestak sealed the points at the death when he latched onto Kozacik's pass and put the game out of reach." - Sky Sports

October 9, 2014 - Juraj Kucka & Miroslav Stoch score in win over Spain
"Slovakia pulled off a huge upset of Spain on Thursday, defeating La Furia Roja 2-1 thanks to a late goal from Miroslav Stoch. Paco Alcacer had pulled Spain even in the 82nd minute, but the home side responded with the match winner just five minutes later....  The home side got another chance in the 17th minute and this time they took advantage. After Sergio Busquets brought down Jan Durica 25-yards from the Spanish goal, Juraj Kucka stepped up and fired a curling free kick that caught Casillas leaning to his right. The ball went left and while the Spain keeper was able to get a hand on the shot, there was too much power behind it from him to keep it out of the net.... The home side did not give up and in the 87th minute, Miroslav Stoch got on the end of a lofted cross from Michal Duris. Stoch raced past his marker, getting free at the far post and heading the ball down past Casillas to put Slovakia back ahead 2-1." - SB Nation

"Ukraine have begun their Euro 2016 qualification with a 1-0 defeat against Slovakia in this evening's Group C clash at the NSK Olympic Stadium. The home side were quickest out of the starting blocks, charging forward as early as the second minute, but Kirill Kovalchuk's effort flew just wide of the Slovakian post. The deadlock, however, was broken by Jan Kozak's side in the 18th minute, when Robert Mak drifted in off his flank and was put clean through on goal. The PAOK man was able time to steady himself, take a touch, get his head up and pass the ball into the near post to give the visitors the lead. " - Sports Mole
