Turkey Men's National Soccer Team News

September 6, 2015 - Özyakup, Turan & Yılmaz score in win over Netherlands
"Turkey 3-0 Netherlands. Oğuzhan Özyakup, Arda Turan and Burak Yılmaz all found the net as the hosts leapfrogged their faltering visitors to go third in qualifying Group A.... Oğuzhan opening his international account with a well-placed lob over Jasper Cillessen following a quick counterattack with Arda. His captain then doubled the lead after 26 minutes, the Barcelona midfielder dispossessing Daley Blind and cutting in from the left to beat Cillessen, whose touch was not enough to stop the ball going in.... Turkey focused on taking the intensity out of the game and continued to threaten on the counter, with that approach yielding another breakthrough close to full time as Burak notched his 19th international goal." - UEFA

June 12, 2015 - Arda Turan scores in win over Kazakhstan
"Arda Turan struck the winner seven minutes from time to give Turkey a potentially crucial UEFA EURO 2016 qualifying Group A success in Kazakhstan. An excellent display by home goalkeeper Stas Pokatilov looked to have denied the visiting side before the Turkey No10 pounced on Burak Yılmaz's knockdown to keep Fatih Terim's men in contention." - UEFA

June 8, 2015 - Hakan Calhanoglu & Burak Yilmaz each score brace in win over Bulgaria
"Turkey ran out 4-0 winners against Bulgaria in a friendly at the Recep Tayyip Erdogan Stadium on Monday, with Hakan Calhanoglu and Burak Yilmaz both scoring twice. The two sides played out a goalless first half but Calhanoglu needed only four minutes of the second to put his side into the lead. And five minutes later, he doubled Turkey's advantage. Burak Yilmaz then netted twice more, his first strike of the game coming two minutes after Calhanoglu's second, to secure a big win against Bulgaria." - Daily Mail

March 31, 2015 - Mevlut Erding & Hakan Calhanoglu score in win over Luxembourg
"Hakan Calhanoglu staked his claim for a starting spot in Fatih Terim's Turkey team by scoring a late winner in Tuesday's 2-1 win over minnow Luxembourg, avoiding an embarrassing draw. The Bayer Leverkusen ace has been in fine form for his club this term, though Terim has often opted to leave him waiting in the wings as he did for Saturday's 1-1 draw with the Netherlands, but he proved decisive at Stade Josy Barthel. Terim made a host of changes from the weekend, seemingly bowing to pressure from supporters to start Calhanoglu and things began well, Mevlut Erding brilliantly opening up an early lead. The away side unsurprisingly dictated the tempo, though Luxembourg looked a danger on the counterattack and went into the break level thanks to Mario Mutsch's precise finish just after the half-hour." - Goal

November 16, 2014 - Burak Yilmaz scores brace in win over Kazakhstan
"Burak Yilmaz bagged a double as Turkey sealed their first three points of Euro 2016 qualification with a 3-1 win at home to Kazakhstan. After seeing an early effort ruled out for offside in Istanbul, the Galatasaray frontman opened the scoring from the spot after 26 minutes, before forcing a mistake from visiting goalkeeper Alexandr Mokin. Serdar Aziz stretched the advantage to three with a headed effort seven minutes from the final whistle, but there was still time for Samat Smakov to pull one back for the Kazakhs through a late penalty." - Goal

October 8, 2014 - roster decimated by injuries
"Turkey will play against the Czech Republic on Oct. 10 and Latvia on Oct. 13. However, Turkey have been rocked by a spate of injuries ahead of their qualifier against the Czech Republic on Friday with six players withdrawing through injury. Turkey's most important goalscorers, Galatasaray's Burak Yılmaz and Beşiktaş's Mustafa Pektemek, are currently injured giving Terim quite the selection headache. Moreover, six players have been ruled out of the preparation camp in Istanbul. Bayer Leverkusen center back Ömer Toprak and attacking midfielder Hakan Çalhanoğlu have both picked up calf injuries while Fenerbahçe goalkeeper Volkan Demirel has a hernia. Yılmaz has a bone marrow edema and Pektemek has a rupture in his left femur. Kaan Ayhan from Shalke 04 was already ruled out of the squad because of an injury to a tendon in his toe. Terim has opted to bolster his options with three new names, with the squad now down to 23 players. Goalkeeper Mert Günok from Fenerbahçe and strikers Adem Büyük from Beşiktaş and Muhammet Demir from Gaziantepspor have all been called up." - Daily Sabah

September 3, 2014 - Ozan Tufan kicks winner over Denmark
"Ozan Tufan's stunning injury-time strike gave Turkey a 2-1 friendly victory over Denmark in Odense. Bursaspor's teenage midfielder Tufan came off the bench with 14 minutes remaining of Wednesday'sclash, and he opened his full international account in style with an unstoppable 25-yard drive that arrowed past Kasper Schmeichel. The 19-year-old's wondergoal completed a remarkable turnaround for Turkey, who had trailed to a Daniel Agger penalty at the break following an abject first-half display. However, Olcay Sahan drew Fatih Terim's side level 10 minutes after the interval and Tufan had the final say to take Turkey into their first Euro 2016 qualifier in Iceland on the back of a win.
