Jamaica Men's National Soccer Team News

September 8, 2015 - Darren Mattocks & Simon Dawkins score in win over Nicaragua
"Jamaica waited until the 89th minute at Nicaragua but finally found the crucial goal for a 2-0 win that kept them alive in CONCACAF World Cup qualifying on Tuesday. The Reggae Boyz, fresh off making the final of the Gold Cup, came all the way back after dropping into a three-goal hole in their home leg to advance 4-3 on aggregate. Jamaica had managed to cut Nicaragua's lead to 3-2 by the end of last week's first leg, and Darren Mattocks' 13th-minute opener in the second leg put Jamaica back on the right foot. But they would still have gone out on goal difference if Simon Dawkins hadn't scored on a powerful volley in the centre of the box, just one minute from time." - ESPN

September 4, 2015 - Rosas, Chavarria & Galeano score in win over Nicaragua
"A late Jamaica comeback could not overcome a three-goal deficit as Nicaragua, who are in this stage for the first time in their history, secured an improbable 3-2 victory over the Reggae Boyz. Manuel Rosas and Carlos Chavarria pushed the Central Americans to a 2-0 lead within eight minutes. Luis Manuel Galeano then added a third two minutes after the break. And while Darren Mattocks and Adrian Mariappa scored a pair of goals 21 and 12 minutes from time, it wouldn't be enough as the Nicaraguans held on for the win." - ESPN

July 22, 2015 - Darren Mattocks & Giles Barnes score in win over USA
"Jamaica defeated the defending champion United States 2-1 on Wednesday at the Georgia Dome to become the first Caribbean team to reach the CONCACAF Gold Cup final.... In a stunning semifinal encounter, the current Caribbean champion absorbed significant amounts of initial U.S. pressure to strike twice before halftime through Darren Mattocks and Giles Barnes. Michael Bradley scored the Americans’ only goal shortly after the interval, but the Jamaicans managed to hold on for a historic victory. Mattocks, the joint-top scorer in the 2014 Caribbean Cup finals with three goals, returned from a one-match suspension to demonstrate why he merited a place in the starting lineup. In the 31st minute, a left-sided throw-in by Kemar Lawrence deep within the U.S. end found Mattocks, who was stationed eight yards from the goal. His looping header was directed off the right post and over the line to give Jamaica a 1-0 lead. Five minutes later, Giles Barnes doubled that advantage with his second goal of the competition. Jamaica was awarded a free kick after it was ruled that goalkeeper Brad Guzan handled the ball outside the box as he was about to distribute it with a throw. On the subsequent play, Barnes hammered his shot from the right edge of the penalty area into the right side of the net." - CONCACAF

July 18, 2015 - Giles Barnes scores in win over Haiti

Giles Barnes tallied the lone goal to boost the Jamaicans in the competition's first-ever quarterfinal contested between two Caribbean sides.... The Jamaicans scored the only goal in the seventh minute. Adrian Mariappa sent a short feed from the right flank to Barnes, who poked it home from three-yards out past goalkeeper Johny Placide." - CONCACAF

July 14, 2015 - Garath McCleary scores in win over El Salvador
Garath McCleary’s second-half strike propelled 10-man Jamaica to a 1-0 victory over El Salvador in the first-ever CONCACAF Gold Cup game played in Canada on Tuesday at BMO Field. With that result, the Reggae Boyz (2-1-0, 7 points) ensured themselves the Group B title, while El Salvador (0-2-1, 2 points) still has hopes of advancing to the quarterfinals as one of two best third-place teams. The goal came against the run of play as McCleary struck for his second goal of the tournament in the 72nd minute. Darren Mattocks won possession on the right side of the box and squared back to the advancing Jobi McAnuff, whose shot was blocked by goalkeeper Derby Carrillo. The ball fell on the left side to a grateful McCleary, who slotted home from close range." - CONCACAF

"Rodolph Austin scored an injury-time winner as Jamaica recorded a dramatic 1-0 victory over Canada in the CONCACAF Gold Cup on Saturday night.... "Jobi McAnuff’s brilliant solo goal early in the second half helped Jamaica rescue a point as the Reggae Boyz held Costa Rica to a 2-2 draw in an entertaining Group B opener of the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup Wednesday. Trailing 2-1 at halftime, Jamaica rebounded through McAnuff, who produced a fine 48th minute effort to earn a point for his side in the first game of a doubleheader at the StubHub Center. El Salvador and Canada were to meet later in the night. The Jamaicans took the lead in the 13th minute through Garath McCleary’s goal. Simon Dawkins opened the scoring in the 13th minute off a pass from Darren Mattocks, who got on the scoresheet for a third consecutive game only seven minutes later. "Jamaica scored two goals in the first half to defeat Antigua & Barbuda 3-0 in 2014 Caribbean Cup Group B play on Friday at the Montego Bay Sport Complex.... The tournament host looked a different team from the one that drew 1-1 with Martinique in its tournament opener.  It mixed hard-driving wing play with solid support from the middle, creating spaces where there were none on Wednesday. Team captain Rodolph Austin netted the last goal with five minutes left in normal time and assisted on the first, an unruffled finish in the 29th minute by Kemar Lawrence. Darren  made it 2-0 with his second goal in as many games just a minute before the break." - CONCACAF
